If your mate has 3yrs NCB, he's in with a shot of a sensible premium.....as sensible as a young driver will get on a scooby anyway!
BUT
He's still looking at about 2k+ I'd say.

The one thing your mate must not do is get a car insured in someone elses name and drive it as a 3rd party! Some people do that on their mum's and Dad's policies.
All policies are based on what's known as 'absolute disclosure' If a person claims to be a 3rd party driver when in point of fact they are the principle driver of the vehicle, the policy will be invalid.
Believe me, the insurance company WILL smell a rat and refuse to pay up in the event of a claim!

That looks quite expensive, but to be far they will sting you on any car at that age. I remember an insurance company wanting £1400 for my 1.3 8 year old Mini (non cooper) valued at £2k, when I was 21 with no no-claims. Perhaps I should have looked for a Sport back then too

They won't even quote you on "high performance" unless your over 25. I speak from experience Even more moderate things like group 14 BMW 320D.... 25 and over...
