if so could i ask what you are paying for your insurance on your scoob, someone i know would like to get one but at only 21 he thinks the premium will be out of his reach, what are you paying for yours.,

If your mate has 3yrs NCB, he's in with a shot of a sensible premium.....as sensible as a young driver will get on a scooby anyway!

BUT

He's still looking at about 2k+ I'd say.

I'm 20, when I turn 21 on the 23rd May, I have a TPFT quote on a 98 Sport at £850. Reasonable since my 2.0 Rover Coupe in my dad's name is £1100 tpft

The one thing your mate must not do is get a car insured in someone elses name and drive it as a 3rd party! Some people do that on their mum's and Dad's policies.

All policies are based on what's known as 'absolute disclosure' If a person claims to be a 3rd party driver when in point of fact they are the principle driver of the vehicle, the policy will be invalid.

Believe me, the insurance company WILL smell a rat and refuse to pay up in the event of a claim!

True, I must say I'm running the risk. But my old man works all week and since I cant afford my own car (until now, new job) I've been using his during the week. So technically he is the main driver, I just use it during the week because he works in London and takes the train to commute. I cant do that from where I live to where I work

That looks quite expensive, but to be far they will sting you on any car at that age. I remember an insurance company wanting £1400 for my 1.3 8 year old Mini (non cooper) valued at £2k, when I was 21 with no no-claims. Perhaps I should have looked for a Sport back then too

I had a 70's Mini, completely standard. Now I'm not a small guy, I had to move my leg every time I needed to change gear. Was all good fun back in the day!!

I'm insured on Quinn Direct, and in fact my brother works there.

They won't even quote you on "high performance" unless your over 25. I speak from experience Even more moderate things like group 14 BMW 320D.... 25 and over...
