Fuel Guage Sender

Fuel Guage Sender
Lifted up the carpet in the boot of my Wagon - removed the cover/hatch to gain access to the Fuel Guage Sender Unit.
I am looking at a circle with nuts around it - do I undo the nuts and then gain access inside the petrol tank? Not sure what I could find or what might drop inside the tank and knacker me up .... is the tank and fuel right there?

It's spelt Gauge Peter.
should this not be in the teccy section......oh sorry i forgot you get your a$$ kicked and hounded out of there......
Yes, under the cover you will see the tank. has a connector and fuel lines going in which need disconnecting. Remove fuel pressure by disconnecting the electrics and then running the engine till it stalls.
The tank has a cover on it as well. About the only thing you can drop in are a) the bolts and b) the seal. When you pull this cover off the pump assembly and sender are attached but you will need a wiggle to get them out.

Surely the way to release any pressure in the tank is simply to open the fuel filler cap?
My Fuel Pump is under another cover - on the opposite side of the car from this one (I assume this as the fuel pump noise comes from under one cover and the fuel guage drops by removing the connector under the other cover).
The Low Fuel Light - where is that sent from? Same place as the 'float' (can I expect to see a Float?)
My Fuel gauge drops off when it reaches the letter E ..... only to rise again a few miles further on - is there anything serviceable on the unit or is it a replacement job?
Thanks for your help so far

Who said anything about releasing the pressure in the tank?
Its the pressure in the lines (3 bar) you could do with reducing before you take the pipes off.
