tell the seller you want to start the car from stone cold (listening for knock/slap)
while doing 40mph in 5th floor it and check for clutch slip
listen for clunks etc while on bumps and round corners
try everything electrical-twice! (dont be fooled by "just needs a bulb, mate" trick)
wear pattern on the tyres
bleed valves are a means the turbo has prob been worked beyond the norm.
wet/damp carpets boot and front footwells especially
good luck

wear old clothes so you can get on the floor and have a good look under the car it you plan to vue late in the evening take a tourch also look for signs of body damage make sure all the lines on the doors and bonnet line up with the wings and bumpers lift the boot lining and check for damage take your time when looking around it and fiddle with every thing to make sure it all works good luck

a bleed valve will be a thing that looks like a tap on a pipe comming off the actuator
which is situated on the turbo......
just ask if it has one and to see it if you cant find it (if it has one)
if it does-walk away imo, youll only need a rebuild or new engine soon

Adding to the above: a Dawes or similar will almost always be accompanied by a boost gauge.
There are good older cars out there, but they are outnumbered by many to one, but charvered-up f*cked about with pieces of sh*te...
The Fast and the Furious has a lot to answer for (as well as completely stealing the plot from No Man's Land!).
