Scooby STIppp vs BMW M3
Hi Guys,
Had a go with an M3 last week with a Result. In all fairness I was just poodling along in the middle lane, when this M3 Convertible (New one with the 19" Wheels) came blasting up the fast lane. I just thought whatever, until I pulled up behind him at the light which had a nice mile straight ahead. Not that I'm stereotypical but this guy looked like he had just stepped off a Movie set and I bet he wears his Jumper over his shoulders!! As he pulled off he didn't see me in his Mirror, but when he did he floored it and so did I. I was gaining a inch on him but around 70mph I started getting closer to his Bumper and then thought I better under-take him as it would be rude not to. I think by that time we got up to about 110mph where we didn't have much road left where I had to test my Scooby's brakes to the max. I think that's the bet bit of having a Scoob, upsetting people who have spent loads on a motor and think they're it! Funny thing, I was on my way to Power Engineering for a Remap!

Refering to the other thread about doing 125mph you are likely to get shot down in flames for this thread.
Que the flame suit......
On the other hand, I like the figures after the remap - is yours a UK car? I'm saving for the very same thing (i.e de-resonated section and remap). How does the car feel to drive after the remap?

Haha awesome! I totally agree.. I had a similar occurance with a Ferrari of some description (not very knowledgable with ferrari models) on the M11... I certainly wasn't faster, but he certainly wasn't losing me either. Just made me chuckle to think he'd probably spent 100k+ on his car and my 7 1/2k 5 year old scooby was giving him a run for his money.

Big difference after the Remap. The Power band is Defo longer and pulls a lot harder. The only thing is you start to get used to the power in a straight line but not round the bend! Yup UK car. I was only doing 110mph approx not 120mph I'm fast but I'm not that fast!

Try and race one around the bends and then look at his face when he catches you up! I went with some mates to the Nurburgring, they have M3's and I have a MY06 WRX Wagon with PPP. They couldn't beleive how quick it was - and mines an estate!!

Who's doing the learning?
BMW's new V8 M3 will wipe the floor with a STI PPP in a straight-line. As would the non-convertable e46 outgoing model in anything except a dig off the line. You have an on paper 301bhp but probably actually 285-90bhp (PPP over-quote). He has a quoted 343bhp and an actual 342.99bhp (an off day). A no brainer once up and running. The convertable sadly has a lot more weight than the coupe to lug and you don't mention if the roof was down or not but if it was that's a big difference to top end performance.

Personally, I can't understand why someone would be pleased to make someone less happy with their much more expensive car.
Pleased with their car, sure, but deriving pleasure from someone elses unhappiness......
Leave that to solicitors!!!

So you raced a 'new BMW CSL convertable'.

Even I totally agree those Bm's are not to be sniffed at, as they produce some of the best made cars in the World. The Power that these cars are coming out with is serious performance. At the end i'm a bit of a sadistic and not too fond of posers.

Posers don't drive M3's any more - just chavs
339bhp will certainly play on a more level field.
I think I'd prefer the new RS4 myself but look forward to seeing what the new M3 is all about.

MY99 WRX STI 5 -decat, 3-port, sti8 intercooler, remap...the usual. Not had a go at an M3 but I'd expect to be no faster and possibly slower if starting from 3rd gear and up.
