Little help please xx
Hi fellow Scooby owners,
Finally plucked up a bit of courage to post on here
Not long owned my Scooby but I'm loving it to bits, got a imported STI Type R and it's sooo good. Makes me very excited when I give it a little squeeze and it roars into life and makes the scenery go all blurry
Anyway hope you can help as I have a few newbie questions........ sorry
First of all my baby is due an oil change, now I don't mind getting my hands a bit dirty (good excuse for a manicure ) and know how to wield a spanner or two, problem is I've heard that a slightly different procedure needs to be followed when changing the oil but I'm not quite sure what. A friend of mine said something about turning over the engine to build pressure before starting Anyone want to enlighten me?
Also what oil should I use, I'm assuming a fully synthetic, nothing but the best for my baby, and a quality brand. Any recommendations?
Finally I'm told I should have a KnockLock(?!?) fitted to my babe to stop it blowing up due to it being an import. Wouldn't want that happening now would we So where can I get one of these amazing devices, how do I fit it and what does it do
Thanks for your help Guys and Gals,
Sexy Babe xxx

I'm intrigued What's morris dancing got to do with it. Suppose you might need a few hankies to soak up any spillages but where do bells and sticks come into it. Are you just implying it's a little tricky
Oh well I'm sure the mists will clear soon.
Thanks,
Sexy babe

Please ignore 'I'm brilliant!'. Pete will tell you chuck any old oil in your engine.
I assume you want the best engine oil for your motor? I recommend either silkolene 10w50, mobil 1 15w50 or motul 15w50.
The procedure is just like any other car, just pre-fill the filter with the new oil before fitting it.

Bascially, there's a user called pslewis. He broke some rules, had a short ban where he made up many other usernames (only to cause disputes) and now he's back. Just ignore him.
And welcome to scoobynet!

I'm now very confused though, this "Pete" isn't an expert then in your opinion?
Thanks for the oil recommendations, I'll look into getting one of those. I've had Silkolene in a previous car before now and it seemed to do the job. Nice and slippery I assume you mean to fill the filter with oil before screwing it onto the engine when you say prefill? Still haven't heard anything about this pressurisation thing though, is that necessary, and if so how do I go about it or was my friend winding me up? Not normally the sort to?
Thought I was quite bright for a blonde but it's all getting a little confusing for my pretty head.
Thanks Chris

Quality user name But it would be cool if multiple user names people were put in stocks at the NBO. People could then pay to throw darts and bricks at the culprits and the money could go to charadeee...

Sorry, here is the procedure more or less:
Warm up engine
Remove undertray
Drain oil
Remove filter
Replace with new filter, having pre-filled with oil.
Replace sump plug with new washer
Refill engine oil
Disconnect crank sensor.
Crank engine a few times to build up oil pressure
Run engine.
Turn off and let it stand for a couple of minutes, then recheck oil level
The crank sensor is a plastic electrical plug and is underneith the alternator.
Hope this helps.

Still don't get where morris dancing comes in, I guess you have to have been here a while to get it
Think I'll have a look around the engine and if I can see everything I need to get at I'll give it a go a the weekend
Still none the wiser as to this Knock thingy though

Whereas Chris has been pretty helpful so far so perhaps it's you who should be thinking about growing up and leave him alone
Funny lot you are
