Default car jumping and making funny noises when cornering at low speed

as above when i reverse or even drive forward on full or nearly full lock, there is a horrible banging/ clunking sound from rear of car, also it feels like it is slightly jumping up, or im reversing over a small rock or brick or something. however on gravel, it just makes one of the rear wheels slip/wheelspin sort of on the gravel, as you can hear it.
any ideas what this could be?

I once had some horrendous noises under my car (also 95 WRX Wagon Auto) it turned out to be a tree branch stuck on the propshaft. What a relief, thought my diff had gone.

So, if I were you, check under your car for foreign objects and check all CV joints for play or split boots.

Hi,

i have the same problem with my 96 WRX auto and have had it looked at by a subaru mechanic near me last week.

He thinks that it is the clutch plate from the auto box onto the drive train.

It starts to get all clogge up with dust and the usual stuff and starts to slip and that is exactly what you are experiencing. It is only applicable to the auto boxes.

He recommends a clean up which usually works which should be about 3 hours labour as the box needs to come out. If it has been left for too long, then it requires a new clutch kit which off the top of his head, he thinks is about £160 - £180 plus about 3 hours labour to fit.

Get it checked sooner rather than later as it should be cheaper.

Thanks

Jason

Default diff lock???

i got my brother to watch my rear wheels when reversing last night and it seems to me that the diff is locked on the back. it seems like a fixed axle.
when i reverse with right hand down, so i reverse to the right, the right hand rear wheel does little mini wheelspins. it will move normally across the floor for about 3-4 inches and then do a little wheelspin where the wheel will spin about 2-3 inches. the opposite rear wheel will just turn normally. the same would happen in opposite if i do left hand down and reverse to the left.
i think that this means that the rear diff is locked as the wheel which needs to slip is not slipping and therefore making these wheelspins. if the diff was working properly then the wheelspinning would not happen as the wheel in need would slip.
as i dont have dccd, does this mean my diff is fooked? or is there a button just for diff lock?
if it is broke has any one else experienced this and / or changed their rear diff? expensive?
cheers
