A truly awesome showcase for RCM but given that spec and investment it should be doing better. It only just managed nines at SSO. The potential is surely there but for now it is definitely in Andy F.'s shadow.

Yeah.....brilliant showcase.I'll be honest......I never guessed that the bhp's were so high. I know there are a few Scoobs now knocking around the 650bhp mark, but 850!! FFS.....what's Andy's doing?

Here's me thinking that 550-600 is high!

850 bhp sounds a tad optimistic to be honest.

Andy....what tyres did u have on for ur 9.33 run?

Looking at the various pics it looks like the Gobstopper used its normal road tyres for the whole event?

I think with a more brutal launch and grippy tyres it can do mid 9's. Be good to see it at TA this weekend anyway..Olly hanging its **** out again!

I ran exactly the same 60' time as the RCMS car so we were launching at the same rate.
I had Kumhos on most of the day running 1.7 60' and put the MT's on later in the day and ran 1.6 something same as Olly I believe as we were sitting 1st= on the scoreboard.
The terminal speeds of 139mph v 161mph suggests it was mainly a power difference
I didn't have nitrous at SSO.

550-600 is high............ i wouldn`t turn down 450 with similar torque, imagine that in an RA as a road car....

Looks like a classic to me! Not far off a 22b. Very much a Classic shape, like all the top end Impreza's are classics.

Certainly doesn't look like a Newage!

Indeed Andy. However methinks there is a few tenths there with the right wheel and tyre combo. I mean 18s with low profile look nice and allow big brakes, but surely for the quarter mile the tyre choice has to be super sticky MT radials.

Wouldn't say first time out as it was at TOTB last year!

It did well on the handling circuit but something went wrong when it tried to have a go on the 1/4 mile.

I'm sure they've been testing the drag side of the car at brunters in secret or something.

Just my opinion:

The construction and unique details (ie the trans) make the RCMS car special in so many ways, and I take nothing away from Andy or others in saying that.

The detail is truly 'gobsmackin'

Performance on track will win customers, and nothing wrong with that and at these levels a slightly duff driver day will knock the car back, and similarly if the driver is right up for it then a better chance of a killer time/performance.

These car are near inspirational for so many reasons from imagination to results on a budget, and the fact that it is a Classic that runs at the front say something about the weight of the later cars perhaps? (or rather you can cut more weight from a classic than a New Age).

Great to have such determination out there, and i would die for a 450 x 450, but in a Classic please, and of course a white one!

Graham.

The Gobstopper is an awesome car, but if you're looking for 'ifs' and 'buts' Andy's car was on a un-finished map and with no nitrous (i believe)

Although the 2 cars are both Impreza's they are miles apart in a way.
Not taking anything away from the Gobstopper at all, but i love how Andy's is all done by himself without such a big company backing. (ie he pays ouf of his own pocket)

I'm sure Andy does well out of his mapping, but even he'll admit he is still a few £££ away from buying a truck to take his car to events in

I'd have to agree with you, you can't take anything away from either company/tuner, both abosolutly awsome cars, and awsome companies just a big price difference between both the cars.

I don't think you could say Andy's business is un-successful!!!

Obviously the size of RCM's business means they have more turnover to play with.

Like i said i'm not taking anything away from the RCM car at all, it is a truely awesome bit of kit, and am looking forward to seeing it @ Silverstone this Sunday.

I suppose the Gobstopper is almost a 1998 body/2007 technology WRC car in tarmac spec.

Almost a 22B...................but miles better!!

If Carlsberg built Imprezas eh???
