I guessed as much but loved the wording. I half expected to see Jambo on the end. I wonder how many people have lost either the shipping amount or their cars to this?

I am guessing the funds won't clear or bankers draft will be fake and you will have to stump up the costs yourself and let your car go before you actually have the money. Must work otherwise he wouldn't do it.

Anyone else know how else it works? So that people are more aware when selling.

I also got canvassers calling. They don't have anyone ready to but so don't give them any more money to sell your car. That is what Auto Trader, Scoobynet, Piston Heads and the Bay are for.

It works because funds can appear to clear, but once they find out the cheque or whatever is stolen they can reclaim the money back up to 7 years later (statute of limitation)

No one will come and collect, you will be sent a Cheque or Draft that will be "accidently" too much, you will then be asked to pay the difference..

The cheque will clear but it will bounce eventually and you will be left out of pocket but you'll probably still have the car lol.

Indeed, they are not interested in the car - they want the 'difference'.

The cheque 'appears' to clear but then it is found to be stolen many weeks later .............. when your 'difference' has long gone.

Ask him to send cash with his pick up man. you won't hear from him again.

Same as the canvassers, say you'll happilly pay if they put the buyer on the phone and you'd sign a contract that gives them their cash when the sale is complete. Never hear from them again.

I love the canvassers ...... "Is the car still for sale?"

"yes"

Shocked voice, "Really? We have people searching for your exact car!"

"You have, have you?"

"Yes, we have - for a flat fee of £65 we will put your car on our Database until sold"

"Will be sold very quickly then?"

"Yes, Sir, indeed it will"

"Tell you what, don't bother putting it on your Database - I will pay you DOUBLE what you want when I sell to one of the many buyers you have the details of"

BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

have a browse around here. This guy plays games with the nigerian scammers - some excellent stuff on here where he's gone as far as arranging to meet them at the airport etc.

Fecking hilarious! Rather than you pay me to pay someone else for the shipping ... how about you pay the shipper yourself?!! Crazy idea I know.

Just reply accepting his offer.

For you address insert the local police constabulary's. Let them send the draft, wind them up a little. Hope they send the heavies round and laugh

One of the oldest scams in the book.. Best thing you can do is as Luminous says pass on the local police stations address or anything else you can think of that is just as humourous!

No this was the one where he had to make a 10" tall bust of the scambaiter, then do a 17 foot high painting on a wall or billboard and then he had to make a 7 min video doing the Monty Python "dead Parrot" sketch!
