Total Loss?

Total Loss?
Hi Guys,
Im new to this forum and i'm looking for a bit of advice. I bought a 2005 white IMPREZA WRX-STI TYPE UK a few weeks back and unfortunately a young boy racer smashed into the car on Friday. I have heard back from the insurance company today - the damage is worth 10k and the car was valued at 17.5k, they will get back to me tomorrow on whether it is a total loss or not - what do you guys think?

Sorry to hear it.
I thought WR1s only came in that light blue colour? Must be a rare one...
They are selling for anywhere between £17 to £20k depending on mileage and condition. They will probably want to write it off.

Very very unlucky. Hope no one was injured.
If it's 10k worth of damage, it must be quite serious. Personally, I'd prefer the insurance company to write it off and take the 17.5k (if that's what their offering).
Good luck

No injuries apart from whiplash. The young guys saxo was in pieces, he was coming round a bend on my side of the road and smashed right into the front driver side, really suprised he walked away to be honest. Car needs new driver door, wing, windscreen, driver window, both airbags came out plus prob more damage which I didn't even register. Just totally gutted because the car was so rare. Anyone any idea where I could start looking for another? I came across this one for sale by pure luck.

Bloody neds in the saxos.
Try the usual; autotrader, pistonheads and on here. Still comanding quite a premium.
Didn't think they did the WR1 in white, nor on a 2005 plate.

Sorry to hear of your bad fortune. If the offer from the insurance covers what you paid for it, then I'd take the money and run! If you're missing work owing to the whiplash then some compensation might also be in order!
Saxo Boi won't be behind the wheel for a while after his insurance company renegotiate his premium based on this incident; small consolation though, I guess!

Not too sure, saxo boys daddy is a police man who has told him not to take responsibility even though the police that attended the accident said considering the road markings etc that the crash was his fault. Daddy wants to go 50/50 - no chance!!

Nice looking car though, what a shame!
Chin up (as I used to say to my ex ) You can get another nice example when you get the insurance pay out!
BTW Make sure you have the details of the policemen who attended and any witnesses for insurance purposes and have made it VERY clear to the insurance that you will not accept a knock for knock claim! TBH though, if he was on the wrong side of the road coming around a bend, it's hard to see how this can be viewed as anything other than his fault!
All the best,

Your car looks like a MY05 STI not a WR1 - its got the rear arch extensions and looks like the MY05 wheels with the different PCD.Be really lucky to get anywhere near £17k.

Here's a WR1 example:
Subaru : 2004 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI WR1 BLUE
Buy another one for 16k and you can get a wee holiday to recover from the whiplash and escape this scottish summer we're having.

Thats great, i'll start looking - thanks for everyones help. Just need to hope that it is a total loss now and that the boy racer admits to the crash 100% or I have a fight on my hands

Nicola, just for your sanity, you did say the car was a STi type UK not a WR1, don't know where the WR1 came from .
Take the cash and buy another one you weren't hurt so all is good! It's only a car at the end of the day.

Hold out on the 50/50 the markings will tell the story as will the cops' report.
If you have whiplash then go after the ****** for that was well.
Hopefully he will get done for dangerous driving and it will push his insurance out of his reach

To be fair to the dad, the insurance companies generally tell you NOT to admit fault even if you think it was your doing, simply because this is an issue for the insurance companies to sort out on your behalf. If people start admitting liability -even though in point of fact it may not have been totally their fault- then this makes things a lot more complicated for everyone.
As you say, the marks on the road, damage to the vehicles and testimony from the witnesses will seal it.

sadly the chances of getting another white 2005 UK are pretty slim only 5 in the whole of the uk i believe (could only be 4 soon if yours goes to scooby heaven ) shame i'm not after selling, could have just got the insurance company to make the cheque straight out to me
plenty of bloody nice scoobs out there for that money though
good luck with the insurance
