Default Why would a garage sell a car with no history?

As I said in a previous post my ex has bought her old Impreza back, I tracked it down on eBay and she decided to buy it back now she doesn't have to do lots of mileage.. Anyway when she px'ed the car at a local garage it had loads of history but the current owner was given nothing by the garage, he was also only given one key and one alarm fob when we gave the garage two...

Also when she px'ed the car the garage gave her a MY00 Tigra Chequers and £1,000 for the Impreza, the Tigra had no history either but he told is it was because it was a repossession.. Obviously I HPi checked it and looked over it thoroughly and its been a damn straight car so far.. So maybe that had history too..

Anyway my question is why on earth would a garage with-hold a vehicles history when there's nothing really wrong with it and surely it adds to the value?

Easy! We are still good mates.. And its kind of sentimental to see this car come up forsale as I bought a lot of blood sweat and tears into it..

Seems strange when there is nothing to hide. When I PX my 1st Impreza they lost my old sevice book, then found it in a Legacy!

Many dealers do it. Don't know why. They bin all the reciepts, invoices and stuff and just give you the service book.

When the most important bit is the reciepts and invoices.

I suppose it could be data protection, as it would have addresses and details of all previous owners, but then, the V5 has the last owner's address printed on it that anyway.

Alot of stuff for my NSX nearly went in the bin if it wasn't for me spotting the huge wallet of paperwork on the desk with the registration number wirtten on in in huge bold writing and asking what was in there I was told its just a bunch of old Mots and stuff, they were going to bin it.

I've got original brochures, press releases, reciepts, RR'd graphs and all sorts for mine - I'd be gutted if I ended up PXing it and found out the garage just dumped it all.

Seems a bit silly when its actual proof of the previous owners love of the car.
