Version 3 is from 9/96 on.. ie. 96 is on the change over..

how many plugs does the ecu have? 4plug then it can be mapped.

3 plug and therefore a version 3 and correct it cannot be mapped and the sti and uk engines are different (cams, turbo etc) and would could fit an sti ecu to sort the problem.. you would need to swap pins in the ecu uk loom though.
but it is easy to explain which need swithcing if you go down that road.
is the car up and running?

then you have been told correct the original ecu cannot be remapped.. plug in replacement like PowerFC if you want it mapped.

The crank and the cam sensor pins on the ecu loom need swapping and the fuel pump relay pin moved.

Are you 100% sure you have an STi3 engine?

when they remove the cams to remove the heads / refit them remove a valve bucket and you will know if it is an sti3 engine if they look like this

cams2.jpg @ Fotopic.Net

ie. the bucket is smooth on the sides and has the little shim under it.. just make sure you put the shim back in!! if the bucket has a groove in the side etc then it is a wrx/uk engine with hydraulic tappets.

Unhappy

yeap its a uk wrx its up at as performance but they found the bores are too worn just for piston rings to be fitted )
i dont no wot to do now i just want a reliable 300 - 320 bhp scooby
wot engine would suit me best ?

i have £1000 budget im not sure if il even manage it

the mods i had on my car was a fmic , induction kit , greaham goode flywheel ap racing clutch ,yellow injectors unsure of size ,walbro fuel pump nd got a vf35 in house waiting to be fitted . bought it to fit then get mapped but obviously cant even do it on my ecu

do you think i should take my ecu out now nd just change it all together for an earlier or later ecu that i can get remmapped cos i havnt really got the £££££ for an apexi p fc

let me no wot you think thanks
