Default bit of a daft one, but do people get 60mph in 2nd on 2.0 newage sti?

only asking as i was reading a thread about PPP and mike wood was talking about how close the end of 2nd gear was to hitting 60mph. i've got to admit i always thought you had to change into third

just wondering how close it is to the limiter as i've been bloody close and never hit 60

do i just have to be a bit more abusive to the car?

Pretty sure you cant get to 60 mph in second gear in a STI with 6 speed gearbox, due to its lower ratios compared to the 5 speed gearbox.

not that long ago I posted the calculations for working out top speed for a given tyre size and rpm - lack of search means I can't find it and even using "site:scoobynet.com" as suggested in the sticky on Google doesn't turn it up.

Blowed if I'm going to work it all out again...but suffice to say I'm pretty sure my '05 JDM STi does 60 in second - but perhaps the redline is higher than a UK car?

yeah, your redline is 8k i believe tim compared to 7.2 of my uk, so you should have a bit spare mike wood was referring to a uk car just making it so yours should walk it

will just have to find out tomorrow, damn shame that can't say i've ever hit the limiter in this one though, hope the old girl doesn't spring another cabin rattle out of spite

..you'll only keep finding yourself going for seventh because you think there really SHOULD be another gear there somewhere..

Couldn't agree more, especially since the remap - I keep running out of revs

Just had to go and have try - all in the name of science of course with my MY98 WRX.

60 comes up at around 6700prm, redlined at 7k - think it was around there, not exactly easy to read the rev counter and watch the road

I can easily get 70 (speedo) in second in my WRX

Another question, given the higher gearing ratios, which car would be quicker WRX PPP or stock STi?

I only know this because I was in communication with Mike Wood at Prodrive yesterday, the 6 speed STi can do 60 in 2nd, just, but you will probably bounce off the rev limiter doing it.

I have just tried this in MY03 STI UK, yes it is posible, but just as you hit 60mph you hit the limiter and look like a complete Kn*b as I have just done. But atleast I know now.
I am quite sure the people behind found it amusing

Don't forget the WRX is only a 5 gear car so should hit 60 in 2nd. It's the 6 speeds we are interested in seeing if the do 60 surely?

can you hit 60 in 2nd? as tried out by fellow scoobynetters, yes you can. would you do it to hit a good 0-60? yes. would you do it to get any other form of decent time? **** no rev limit city never thought it would be that high though, assumed it was 7.2K

The PPP PDF at subaru.co.uk for the 2.0 STi gives a 40-60 in second gear time, which kind of indicates it will hit a genuine 60 (not clock!) in second!

Thats 55-56mph not 60 You need to hit 65 on the speedo for a true 60.
