Unhappy VXR 200 Turbo vs MY 03 STI

Dont usually play with other cars....However last night found myself playing on a dual carriageway and at a set of lights with 54 plate VXR 220 turbo. I think it was all round quicker than me. Faster through the gears, tighter on the curves and quicker from the lights (which he jumped but even if he had not i suspect he had an edge), Only marginally in all areas but quicker none the less.
I drive an 03 sti with a H & S 2.5 inch exhaust, Walbro fuel pump, Bilstien springs, ecu tek remap White line anti roll with linkage and using 345 BHP and 340 lb torque.
Should this guy have an edge or am I a 47 year old past it slow git of a driver?

VX220 turbo is 207ish BHP as standard mate. But can easily be tuned to 270ish. They weigh under a ton and are basically lotus elise's. Quicker car but I'd rather go down the shops in something a bit more sturdy lol

They are quick cars and as said before, Impreza's are not the quickest thing on the block these days.
Wait for posts saying his must have been modded

if it was a VXR 220 turbo (as opposted to the normal VX220).
then it would be running at least 220BHP/220LBft in a car that is considereable lighter than your STi

as for the cornering the VX220 is a lotus elise with a different shell.

i did consider one of these before i got the subaru. however they aren't very practical and a bit uncomftable

Sushi, don't worry about it. As has been said, Scoobs are not the quickest things around unless they're modded up well. His PWR will be much higher than yours so he will be quicker.

But who'll be dead first in a crash?

2000 MY 2.2 N/A 145 BHP 0-60 = 5.6 secs top speed 136 mph
(including Lightning Edition only available in Yellow)
2003 MY 2.0 Turbo 220 BHP 0-60 = 4.7 secs top speed 151 mph

2004 MY 2.0 Turbo 240 BHP 0-60 = 4.2 secs top speed 151 mph only 50
made.

All do about 33 mpg when driven normally. Weighs about 300 kg less than a Scoob.

Every little helps

MY2003 turbo= 197 bhp (@215bhp/ton)
MY2004 turbo= 217bhp (@237bhp/ton)
Both 930kgs.

NA version MY2002, 875kgs and 145bhp (@168 bhp/ton)

MY2003 STI, 1485kgs and 340bhp (@229bhp/ton).

This PWR shows it all really, with the newer 217bhp VXR having a slight edge, but more importantly, the fact that the physical weight, under a ton and newtons laws should give it an even bigger advantage..!

You did well to stay remotely close to it IMHO..!

I have driven the 2.2 version with the sales guy from the dealer sitting next to me tellig me how to push it and these cars are amazing. For me they are not practical enough. If I could afford a weekend car a VX220 would be high up on the list.

On the testdrive down some b roads we approached a left hand bend at a near 90 degree. The guy said get it to 50 and just take the bend, trust me it will do it. The car did without complaining. He said if you had big enough ***** and could guarantee no oncoming traffic and it was dry you could do the same thing at about 80. VX220's are better made and designed than elises.

From what I heard, when Vauxhall gave the contract to Lotus to make the cars one of the contractual items was financal penalties to be paid everytime a car went back in with a fault due to manufacturing defaults. Therefore most are spot on. The only thing most owners complain about are the handling could be better, a geo setup cures this at no cost as the parts are on the car already inlike scooby's where you have to buy better ARB's etc. The othe minor complaint is the heating fans, they dont have filters so anything that goes in, ie flies, leaves etc come into the car through the vents. Most people take the piping apart and stretch pairs of tights over them to catch these sorts of debris.

I would go as far as to put money on the 2.2 version against an STI on a track, the VX220 would win.

Even though the N/A version has a lower PWR it will beat a STi around the track and a Turbo will whoop them

IMHO

LOL, as much as I agree having a fleet of them at work and never having them all in working order at the same time, the VX220's and the rebadged Holdens can't be painted with the same brush IMO. Yes the VX220's are for hairdressers and metrosexuals/very 'happy' men , but come from Lotus heritage basically and are great fun at the end of the day. Holdens just plain make me moist

You went up against a real "sports car" in a sports saloon. Regardless of the badge these are basically racing cars on the road. It's not another hair dresser's coupe.

If you stay in touch then it is a compliment to what Subaru can do with a car designed for the road.

LOL, god we get some brilliant threads on here!

'I found myself playing on a dual carriageway'.... didn't your mum tell never to play on the roads?

If you're gonna come on here talking about your antics, then call it what it is...racing,or as I prefer to call it, idiotic, childish and dangerous behaviour.

I suggest you spend a bit more time 'playing' with yourself! And less time on the public highway!

Why can't I comment?

It's not the threads I don't like so much, it's the dimwits that decide it's a good idea to post them.

Listen, I love driving my car fast, I wouldn't have if I didn't, but racing is just crazy, and should be challenged by every responsible person on here.

If people weren't slightly embarrased by what they are typing then they wouldn't use terms like 'I had a play', or 'an encounter', they'd call it what it is.

People just don't understand that all reason goes out the window when people race, a persons judgement it completed bypassed by the 'need to win'.
Also you may well be racing in a responsible manner (if thats possible), but how do you know what the wally you are racing is going to do? If he has a crash, or hits someone or something, then YOU are also responsible and will have the book thrown at you.

I wanted to have a "play" yesterday with an Alfa GTV 3.0 V6 thingy giving it the revs at the lights, had my seven year old in the car so didn't, still wondering if I'd have beat it though..

dont know if anyones interested but the stig at topgear recorded a lap time for the vxr,it was over a second slower, and the sti wrx was 2 seconds quicker.

Top Gear | The Stig's lap times

and WTF? difference does it make if one calls it racing, playing or anything else,it maybe irresponsible, but get a life, its like having a one night stand and not using a jonny, its irresponsible but it happens get a life.

this comment is in direct conflict with the rest of your post.if you want to drive safely then dont speed at all.

Erm, have you noticed the fact that they don't specify which runs were WET laps and which were DRY laps????
