De-Resonated Centre Section and ECU-TEK Remap
I know this has been asked before, so sorry.
When booking my car in for the above works, there was doubt as to whether the car would have any problems at MOT time.
Can someone please clarify whether the car will have issues at MOT with the centre resonator removed.
The car is currently standard except for PPP.
Help please S/netters!

The guy I was talking too (who I don't think was giving me his full attention) suggested that the two cat's remain standard on a PPP'ed car. However, I thought the PPP provided a sports cat?

Cool - Thanks gents.
Really looking forward to it now. How did you find your car after the de-resonated pipe being removed and re-mapped?

The noise with the backbox and straight through centre section is just about right, not so loud as to draw attention to myself but enough rumble to bring a smile to my face everytime i drive it

Totally transformed it to be honest, the power delivery is a whole lot smoother on and off boost, and it pulls all the way to the redline in every gear, 5ft feels more like 3rd with it's current map, and another good thing is it even does more MPG now lol.

I had a sports cat and nothing else, no probs. Will have the same on the new car too. Centre section de-resonated/silenced gives you much more feel with the revs and removes the lumpy feeling.

I got Zak @ Mocom to map it with safety in mind (not wanting to stress things to much) and he got it to 257 BHP @ 252 FtLbs of torque,(at the wheels) he said there was more to come if i wanted it but the way it drives as it is suits me at the mo. I think there will be more mods to come in the future and Zak can play with the map as it goes along

I just spoke to Powerstation, where it's booked in to have the works done and they cannot do a de-resonated centre section?
How much will this affect performance and should I get this done somewhere before? I assume they cannot go to a n other supplier?

I am leaning towards buying one myself and asking powerstation or someone else to fit it prior to the remap to fit it.
Does anyone know of where I can get a de-resonated centre section to fit a PPP exhaust?
Many thanks

I was told my JDM MY01 STI had two cats, one in the down pipe and one mid section. Was told to keep the mid section cat for mot's when i go cat free. Is this not right then???

What sort of gain is expected from remapping an UK STI with the PPP already fitted and a straight through centre section. Are you leaving on the Prodrive sports cat etc.

Phew, I'm doing the same as you 53wrx with my Spec D and was informed the afterburner centre section would not be an issue at MOT. All part of my D restoration and upgrade project.

The diagram on the scoobyworld website is useful here 53WRX.
I think I will give H&S a ring My only question is whether it's 2.5" or whether it's 3", the latter won't fit the ppp exhaust so In told. I don't want to upgrade to a 3" system due to the limited benefit not really justifying the cost.
Did yours fit onto the standard exhaust chriswsti05?

Well thats the plan next Thursday anywhoo
Also sticking with 2.5" for now, purely on cost basis as I already had the parts.

chriswsti05 did your H&S de-res centre section fit onto the standard exhaust and does anyone know if the exhaust from the MY03 to MY05 is different?
Thanks

Yep afraid so - the JDM has a 3 piece the same as the classic (but still needs the new age back box) downpipe and centre are classic
I bought and tried to fit a new age exhaust and found that the centre pipe was 4 inches too short !!!
Easy fix though, just have to remember when ordering (Scoobyworld et al are fully aware)

I've bought all 3 sections now. Downpipe and back box are newage. not sure about the centre part
I suppose you don't know how long the mid section has to be before i take it to have it fitted and avoid looking a bigger *** than i now already do

Jamie,
If you have 3 new age parts then you might just get away with buying the short bit of pipe between the DP and CP where the UK models have an extra cat. This should then turn your JDM layout into a Euro layout (i'm assuming here that the exhaust hanging points are all in the same place)
