Md304 hybrid vf22 info needed
Anyone know much about these? Top end power, spool, reliability etc. Are they a good upgrade from a td04? Looking for more top end than my td04 but still keeping the early spool up

I have used one for the past few years. It was one of the best performing turbos at low boost pressure in its day and can still hold its head high even in todays advancing turbo technology.
Spool is very good for a turbo of its size, top end it about 360bhp max so look for around 330bhp to be sensible. This will all be at 1.2 to 1.4bar boost pressure.
Mine has been ultra reliable. The original VF22 was known for a very fragile compressor wheel that had a habit of shattering under extreme conditions but the MD304 conversion completely replaces the 'not so good' parts.
It will be a laggier than your TD04.
...Many turbos will with the TD04 being so small but if you can pick one up for a good price then I say its worth it. If it was fully refurbished at Turbo Dynamics then it is worth approx £500, if its coming straight from another car then you should get it checked out to be safe in which case its worth about £400 or get the seller to send it off to be checked out first.

With the right mods it's a storming turbo, a friend and I ran the prototypes Mark (Lateral) had made by TD many moons ago. On my car the way it was set up (MY98 UK, with HKS FMIC, HKS Manifold, HKS Hiper exhaust, H&S open neck 3 inch downpipe, 550cc injectors and a Link ECU) 1.25 bar was enough to reliably run in excess of 340/310 and yet remain totally driveable on a day today basis...
Steven Darley (another 304 owner) and I both ran really well at the first Scooby Shootout, I stopped at 12.3s on the quarter he went on to 12.16 1 run later
IHO it was a far better real-world turbo than the TD05 16G with Front Entry (can of worms I know) it really was the best mod I ever made on my car in it's former life, and I'm still regetting parting with it, although it's current owner isn't
