Cost per mile?
I saw some years ago in a car mag a section where they would feature a couple of cars and interview the owners to work out how much it cost them to run their cars per mile. I guess many of you will have heard of this and apologies if this is another SIAL.
In that article they took the price of the vehicle and added to that the cost of repairs and or mods to get the car on the road. They left out the cost of servicing tax mot etc.
I just work out that if I add the price i paid for my car (11k) to the cost of mods (3k ish). If I divide that total by the number of miles I have completed my car currently costs 56p per mile to run.
I have had the car 16 months so if I add that many months worth of insurance tax and petrol plus the 2 MOTs it had it costs me 77p per mile so far.
Obviously the overall cost per mile goes down with the more miles you do especially if you only use the first calculation.
So who's car is costing them the most?
I'm guessing someone with a nice new spec c or type 25 that's barely done more than delivery milage.

I have a spreadsheet which details costs to run my cars. Remember to take into account depreciation, repairs, maintenance and loans (if you have them).
This all adds into the cost/mile.
Mine was around 86p/mile (classic)

My Toyota (3.0D turbo 4x4) is 36p/mile and Audi (1.8litre petrol) is 21p/mile. (Just updated some data)
Who says 4x4's are expensive to run!?! lol
