Default Sti 3 with 3K to spend

Right, my sti 3 doesn't seem to be selling and i'm not going to let it go for peanuts, so I've decided to spend some cash on it.

It had an engine rebuild 2000miles ago and, apart from a slightly notchy 2nd gear, is running sweet as nut.

Here is a piccy:

Obviously, the wheels have got to go, probably going to go for 17 inch ultralight 789's in gunmetal.
Then I want to sort the body work:

Colour coding
Wind deflectors removed
V5/6 front bumper fitted with a P1 replica splitter
V5 rear wing
Crystal headlights (maybe), sidelights, indicators.
Scratch on rear quarter repaired.

Anyone got any idea how much this is likely to cost?

This is purely IMO but fiddling with the look of the car will de-value it. The high rear spoiler thing is/has gone out of fashion. Fitting a V5/6 front bumper (although the nicer bumper) can suggest its been smacked hence the new bumper ( I changed my rear bumper and took lots of photos to prove the reason for change - melted by exhaust!)

I quite like wind deflectors too.

Get the existing bodywork sorted and spend the dosh on handling.

However, even doing all the bits you mention above plus wheels you should still ahve plenty left over from 3K (depending on price of wheels)

Bloody hell, worrying that a freshly rebuilt STI 3 can't get what you were asking.

Think it looks nice as-is (wrong colour though ) Maybe another set of wheels would set it off nicely?

I'd spend the money on exhaust, remap, suspension. This is what I'm doing to my STI 3 over the coming months.

PS: When I had a Honda the 'JDM' wind deflectors were all the rage.

Same wheels as your red Turbo 2000 had would look good. (Either 17" or 18")

But everyone has got those.
I must admit Gary, I do like the look of yours. How much did the front end conversion set you back?

I think you're right about the wheels. I havn't had any interest whatsoever, completely the opposite to my old scoobies......which didn't have gold wheels!

As long as you're ok with the fact that you'll probably not ever see the £3000 back when you come to sell it then I'd spend the wedge on some performance, handling and braking things. Such as...

17" Wheels and Tyres: £600 (minimum for good set of both)
Good Condition Used P1 Suspension Kit: £350
Godspeed 335mm Kit for 4-Pots: £650 (price from memory)
Full De-Cat Exhaust: £300 (minimum)
Panel Filter: £30
Walboro: £70
FPR: £100
Power FC or Other Mappable ECU: £850
Oil T/Oil P/Boost Gauges: £200 (Minimum)

Total: £3150 (if my maths is right!!)

Ok, so I went over the budget a wee bit (unless you ditch the gauges, as the PFC Commander has all those read-outs built into it IIRC), but that would be a decent set-up for fast road and occasional track use.. would be a big difference over the way the car is at the moment too.

Cheers,
Grant

Thats a cracking looking car mate - don't change a thing visually, just stick a 6 speed in it

Have to say - I'm in the same boat, mine's not selling either, having driven it around some last week I'm tempted to keep it and do a few more bits and pieces to it...

I'm a perfectionist though! There is very small dent on the front of the bonnet that my dent man could remove, plus the front bumper is badly stone chipped. So, if i'm going to them repaired, I mayaswell tart it up at the same time. Just can't decide whether to v3/4 + standard front spoiler or v5/v6 with the p1 spoiler. Hmmm, decisions decisions! I already have a v4 front spoiler sitting in my shed, seems daft to waste it.

It already has a full tsl decat exhaust system and green panel filter. Thinking of upgrading to sti 7/8/9 brembo's as well!

Whiteline kit should also go on the shopping list (if not fitted already)

I'd highly recommend the 22mm anti-roll bar and the drop links from personal experience, and i am also going for the anti-lift kit soon, as i have heard a lot of very good things about it.

how much were you trying to sell it for? Does look like a very clean example.

I had my version 3 sti ra for sale few months back (only on scoobynet and pistonheads) and it sold within a week!!! Reckon I sold it too cheap in the end.

Unless you're going to keep the car for a few years I wouldn't waste any more money on it - just enjoy the car as it is

Considering the recent engine rebuild, I was looking for around £5500, which I don't think is to unreasonable.
I'd just rather buy another with the mods I want rather than go through it all again with this one. But, atleast I know whats under the bonnet this time!
