Default Handling?

I recently bought a totaly standard 1995 Impreza Wrx (well it has an exhaust) after driving it for a few weeks i am not very impressed with the handling.

Last night i went out for a drive it was a bit wet but not raining at the time and the car handled worse than my Fwd drive Crx did. Every corner or roundabout i went round the rear end started to go.

Is this normal?

Is it because i dont have uprated suspension?

Thanks Sean

its normally the front that starts to go understeering itself into the nearest kerb or hedge.

get a geometry set up done, and see how you get on with that

Handling is poor on imprezas but the grip is very good.

As above geometry check, quality of tyre (brand name) and speed at which you're going round the roundabouts

A dodgy rear end on a wet road suggest to me that cheapy nasty tyres on the rear would be the first port of call.

Handling is excellent on mine thanks!

I would also check your tyres for wear and pressure, also are they all the same tyre etc.?

Its done 43000miles

The tires on the back are bridgestone to be fair they have seen better days but are still well above the legal limit

I was not going round the roundabouts fast at all to be honest

What should the tire pressures be on the front and the back?

It will be the tyres. I bought some 2nd hand Sti wheels with Bridgestone potatoes on, still with plenty of tread. They were plain treacherous in the wet and tramlined like crazy. So even if they look allright they probably aren't. Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's would be a good replacement.

when i got my 95 sti it had yokohama's on the back and as soon as it rained i lost it on every island. I changed them for Toyo T1R's and it is sound now.

I find that the handling sometimes lures you into a bit of a sense of security to the point where you don't realise just how fast you have taken the corner..
