I am looking to buy a scooby (anything from a 2003 -2005)but not really sure what version to got for.
how does a wrx with a prodrive kit compare against an sti or even an sti with a prodrive kit ?
or will i be satisfied with just a wrx ....
trying to get some info as to what to start looking for - what about running costs, insurance etc ....
any views on the above would be gratefully received.
thanks

i had a 03 wrx loved every minute of it but i recently got 05 sti ppp and i'm so glad i did its awsome, wrx with ppp would be similar to a standard sti but remember your getting a lot better brakes with a sti plus the 6 speed box which i prefer by far plus little things here and there, if you can costs/insurance permitting sti ppp is my reccomendation, hopes this helps

i.e a sti would need to have 285 bhp to match a 265 bhp wrx.
but thats not taking into account the better brakes, dampers, dccd etc which of course comes into play.
im not knocking wrx ppp's,cracking cars but if the sti is the biz even more so when you leave out the ppp and get bob rawle to map it too well over 300bhp!

standard 265 sti------ppp'ed wrx ....i'd put my money on the wrx ppp, even with closer ratios in a standing start i'd think power too weight would rule the outcome.

thanks for the replies so far - must admit i would really like an sti with the prodrive kit but not sure if i can stretch the budget to one.
then again i could make myself really skint and get a wr1 ....

If i had the cash for an Sti, i would have bought one. That said, i havnt been disapointed with the WRX even without the PPP. Iv spent a few quid on springs, geometry and Sti Brembo's and the car handles and stops like an Sti. I never realised that the WRX was lighter than the Sti so i should see a big difference when i get the power sorted.
I guess its a matter of budget, what do you have to spend, if you dont mind me asking?

if i got what i would like for my existing car i could afford around £10,500 if i thought i would be definately better off with the sti i would wait a while and save up the extra.
since i have a 206gti at the moment i suppose even the ordinary wrx without any mods would be a big step up ...

As Evil Scotch Broth says, a WRX can be made into a darned good car if you are willing to do a few mods - are you ?
If you think you'll leave as std, go for an Sti.
