I am off to The Ring from 18th this weekend, gonna stay 3 days there and then Spa on 21st.

I found out my cam gasket is leaking a bit dose it affect anything apart from filling up more oil.

Also my car was running 1 bar boost yesterday when i fitted my HKS intake, downpipe and uppipe is that normal? But today i am only running 0.8 bar???

Do you think oil from your car has any chance whatsoever of being left on the track?
If so then you'll be to blame if a biker hurts or kills himself after losing control on it.

yep - thee German police would not view it too kindly if oil was left on the track and other vehicles are involved in an incident, let alone the track marshalls who will charge you for clean up and track closure.

Get the oil leak fixed before you go - dont be a numpty.

Its a really slow leak, you can only notice it when the under guard is off. So nothing major on this one, i will get them fix when i am back next week.

Only thing worry me a bit is the unconsistent boost. one day is 1 bar and the other day is 0.8...

Well said Doc

If all else fails and you cant get it fixed - take a list of the local Subaru dealers around that area with you but parts are hard to come by and be prepared for a small language barrier.

btw - the 'Ring does strange things to boost so best to monitor it closely when you are there and do not go out on track if you think/suspect there is a problem with the car.

Hmm, fingers crossed for you that it doesn't develop into a bigger leak half way around the track, or you could be faced with a very big bill.. or possibly something even worse

Well the engine has 70000miles on it so I am expecting them to go anytime, I had a P1 3 years ago and engine decided to go at 36000miles.

I am thinking to either get a Sti engine or get my engine rebuild straight after the Ring trip.

Proracer you arent listening are you?

People die when cars drop oil on the ring ........ It happens and people are sensitive to it. Rebuilding the engine when you return does not cut it.

It may be a really slow leak but it is enough for you to ask if topping it up is sufficient.

gob smacked

If, your engine kills itself there the oil will go on track and any accidents results from that will be deemed to be YOUR FAULT. That means any costs, loss of life, damage to vehicles, marshalls time, helicopters, ambulances, police time etc ... will be at your expense. This will be many tens of thousands of pounds.

Not only that but you have to then live with the knowledge of any injured/killed being down to you. Dont be a numpty and get it fixed before you go.

You have been warned. (as have other people that will be at the ring the weekend that you say you are going to steer clear of you on track)

I wonder how many accidents are caused by things like this.

I've only been once, earlier this year. It doesn't take much if some one is pushing it a bit, or not even that much actually, if they hit a patch of oil, coolant, fuel etc. Even if you are well within your limits, a fluid spill could end your fun.

Whilst I was watching, just a little further up than the 2nd entrance (home to the 7 second ringmaster ) I saw a car pouring fuel onto the track under left hand cornering

Hence the concern

Plus it costs a few quid if it happen on-track. My bill was £1,000 for a 30 minute closure and track clearing when I blew a gearbox

I can see how people might not realise just how critical something like this could be. A matter of life and death in fact. A friend of mine was killed there some years ago because of oil dropped by an unknown vehicle.

Thankfully proracer posted here for some advice and has decided to follow it. The Nurburgring isn't a place to use a car that's less than 100 percent.

Just playing devils advocate as I think this is an important point that's been brought up..

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't oil on the track just part of the risk of any track day..?

Obviously if you go out with a known fault then that's irresponsible , but surely, given that 'most' cars are being cained, there's a very high probability of some oil always being on the track..?

Do you have to agree to liability before going on track..?

Horn mode off..

With regards to the ring doing strange things to boost, would this have anything to do with the severe change in atmos. pressure at different points on the track..? Then again I thought turbo cars compensated for this..

Pretty easy one to answer.

If you turn up with a car that is leaking fluids in any way you will not be allowed to drive on the 'ring'.
It's a long way to have travelled to be turned away before you even start

The second point is that on a normal track day you dont have cars and bikes mixing together.

That is just one of a number of excuses used when you have been overtaken by a lesser car

and that public days on the 'ring are NOT track days. They are public days and normal German Road laws apply such as overtaking is only allowed on the left etc.
