Default Look what happened to my header to up-pipe gasket after a week! Why???

Had the headers fitted the other week, and the gasket between the turbo up-pipe to manifold has gone.
I presume it was just a defective gasket??
The headers weren't an a1 fit but almost. When i tokk the gasket out after undoing the two bolts the up-pipe sprang back leaving a gap of around 3-4 millimetres.
Should i go for a better quality gasket that is quite thick, or put two of the same type gaskets on??
Any suggestions on good quality gaskets??

Just weld the damn thing as mine kept blowing every few weeks!

If the flanges don't align quite right then it could have left a tiny gap and the gases burnt through it making it worse.

Would try using a bit of non-silcone exhaust paste as well as a new gasket: Makes sure its oxygen sensor and catalyst safe; it does exist, although alot isn't so read the label before buying.

Failing that, if they are new headers/up-pipe; I'd send them back as one of them hasn't been formed correctly. Quite typical of aftermarket performance exhausts I'm afraid.

That is a very cheap and nasty gasket, that is why. Buy an OE one and it should do a lot better.

Cheers folks, but i think the OE gaskets are thin stainless and there is the 3-4 mill gap?

If i welded it would i be able to take it off again, as abit tight space.??

But you suggest that when you tighten the bolts it all pulls together? I take it the uppipe has a flexi joint?

The OE gasket has a crush ring (the one in the picture doesn't) which means gasses can't escape through the thin metal layers that make up the gasket - if sealed correctly.

Flexi joint is cheap and nasty mine is solid

Even if the gaskets blown!!

Just bought 2 with the centre crush rings in them so should be fine in a bit.

The header set is Japspeed. Think prob just a poor fit as only slightly mis fitting.

Out of interest. Can you smell exhaust fumes through your vents with this problem. Expeically when sitting stationary?

get original subaru one they £8
I had the gap 3-4mm you are talking about on mine and made a stainless steel spacer at work got a spare if you want one. if you tighten up the gap without the spacer you are removing all the flex and it may crack or just blow again.

I notice you drive a wagon.
Are you sure fumes are not coming in from the boot area?
I only say this as i had an estate car and due to the exhaust being straight fumes would come in through the boot.
Just a thought
