Super unleaded better then V Power?!?!?!?!
I have a uk 2000 on a 96/97
Nothing done to it other then an air filter and full decat.
Now i have ran this car on V power from the day i got it and before that it was sitting in my mates garage for 4 years unused as the bottem end had gone and i put a WRX bottem on.
Now to the point... The other day there was no shell station around and so i think i used essos or something and put about £20 of Super in the tank....
I don't know if its just me but the car seems to drive alot better! Even sound meaner then it has in the past!
Going around the M25 the car moved like it never has before!
What have you guys got to say about this? Anyone had anything like this happen before? Or have i just gone crazy
Is V power really worth 101.9?!

Sainsburys Super at 96p is just perfect.

I've always found Esso super very good. I think its the mappers third choice after V-power and Tesco 99. I was in Bornemouth just over a week ago and was getting Tesco 99 for 96 pence per litre. Also at Hemel few days ago.

Do you really need to put in the good stuff all the time or is just a gimmic or fashion for cars so that you can spend more money, I get my fuel from asda always have and makes not a damn difference in performance (my missus keeps complaining that i'am gonna give her whip lash),unlike my brother in law who religiously fills up on the good stuff and has just spend a grand on his engine cause it's Shagged.

V Power is an absolute ripoff. I use it only because the Tesco's near me only sells super which is 97 ron ratehr than the T99 stuff. My WRX doesn't like the 95 - 97ron. It loves the T99 the couple of times i've been down south and it was available. Much cheaper too.

Well, I could write a book on this; Fuel is not all about octane numbers. Higher octane is not always better.
A quicky to get you thinking is what additives the supplier puts in the fuel to increase its octane rating. These prevent detonation, but also reduces how aggressive the fuel burns; it burns slower. To make sure you keep power gains the ignition system must be able to compensate for that by igniting it earlier, and there are limits to what the old UK Classic Impreza's ECU can manage in relation to factory ignition maps.
Second thing; the additives dilute the fuel. Now what makes this an issue is what the calorific value of the additives are - they all differ depnding on what is used; But if they are lower than the base fuel, its reducing the overall amount of calorific value per litre of fuel; lower calorific value = less bang.
Of course no fuel manufacturer will quote the specific values and composition of their fuels so nobody really knows what is used in Vpower/BP ultimate/Esso super etc to achive its higher octane value. The exception is Tesco who do publically state to use Ethanol in their 99Ron fuel - and ethanol indeed does lower the overall colorific value of the fuel.
Now thinking further about ethanol, and knowing people have issues with Tesco 99ron, well that maybe beacuse Ethanol is an oxygenate - which affect the required ideal air/fuel mixture to burn the fuel at its optimum, which needs to be slightly richer, so if the car was accurately tuned to run it properly, one could actually see a reduction in fuel economy - contrary to the hearsay that high octane fuel give better economy.
My tea break is over, so I'll leave you to chew on that for a bit

It's a well documented fact that scoobs do not like BP Ultimate at all..! Why, nobody really knows, but you try a tank full after having run v-power/T99/ESUL and see the difference..!
BTW, even the newage ECU will take several tanks of good stuff to advance enough to see an improvement. Where as retardation (in the case of changing to ultimate) will happen immediately.
IMO this is why some people claim they've put some v-power etc in and it's no different to the crap they usually put in. Yet, those of us who usually run one of the better fuels, but have then tried ultimate/95 really notice the difference..!

There has been plenty of research on this subject, I cant back my claim up but it showed that Shell V-Power (or Optimax as it was known then) is the better fuel. BP Ultimate came second, Esso Super Third and Tesco 99 fourth.
Test were carried out over 2 months with a full tank of the new fuel used before the tests was carried on it.
Shell charge more for there fuel because they take care in the process of making & delivering it. They are the only company that dedicate tankers to deliver V-Power and only V-Power will ever go in that tanker. This is to stop any dilution with lesser grade spirits or Diesel. No other oil company do that!
If you are so sure that you are being ripped off & V-Power is no better than what ever fuel you use, explain why so many people use V-Power? Why do mappers, like Bob Rawle, Steve Simpson and Andy Forrest always recommend you to fill up with V-Power for best results??? Because its not as good as other fuels available??
I dont think so.

Tried Bp Ultimate.......Rubbish car spluttered.
V Power, noticed some performance gains, but could not get used to the car Stinking of cat pee all the time.Burble seemed to be louder.
I have been using Total Super,or now as its called Exelsium or summit like that.Scoob runs nice on that never had no probs.
BTW its a 98 Uk Turbo.
