Default Engine bay cleaning??????

Finally got my scooby and doing some cleaning today but would like to know if anyone has any hints or tips on cleaning the engine bay on a 1998 classic. Is there anything under there that is not going to like water that will need covering up and is it worth having the engine running when i hose it. Any tips welcome. Thanks

Cover the alarm, alternator, intercooler. Don't use a pressure washer, if you use a decent degreaser one won't be necessary. Lots of good advice on the www.polishedbliss.com site or in the detailing section
