Exclamation New Shape Impreza - Your Opinions :

Guys

We've been asked to comment on the new impreza as a community.

It must be short a sweet. Could you please let us have two very small comments.. one negative and one positive..

such as :

you can live on it.. but it tastes like ****

seriously...

It looks dull as hell in standard trim, but have you seen the WRC version!?

Cheers guys and gals!

Simon

Have you got a link to any 'official' pictures for reference? (esp. STI and/or WRC version)

Hi Andy

I don't personally.. but I'm pretty sure we do as a community. Perhaps someone would post some?

Cheers

why does it look like a run of the mill bland shopping trolley hatchback the same as every other manufacturer and where has my boot gone? - it's still a nice colour

It's a shame to lose the classic saloon shape, but if it helps to more competitive in the WRC then it gets my vote

I want to see shots of the road going STI before I wade in too much. I don't like the rear lights on the WRC version. I hope that the road going UK version is a very high spec machine, basically a JDM model. It would also be nice to have a choice of silver or gold wheels on delivery.

Default Pros and Cons

Pro's - new engineering (engine!), updated interior, improved safety?
Con's - Needs a more agressive front end, no frameless doors, looks like a hot-hatch rather than a high performance motor.

I appreciate the look but it has lost some of its passion, needs to be more agressively styled, I prefer saloons over hatches which may prove the deciding factor when i decide to buy in the future.

I think everyone agrees with that.

Let's wait to see the 'actual' road-going version before commenting.

The styling is too close to every other hot hatch on the road.......if I want a Focus/C4/Mazda/Civic I'll go out and buy one.

At least you still get the AWD system.

For what it's worth.

The mazda outperformed the wrx. Except for launch, but was only 0.1s away to 100km

Lost its appeal to drivers who want to love the rally heritage.
Increased its appeal to the 'active over sixties'.....

I like the shorter front / rear overhangs.
But the back end, especially the lights, look terrible.

Negative: Disappointing bland styling that looks like many other hatchbacks.

Positive: I can keep my MY00 for even longer!

Against: WRC pics looks like a BMW 1 series with a big spoiler, why an earth did Subaru decided to make a hatchback out of the Impreza.

For: There's always the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X we could buy!!!!!

[quote=webmaster;7244107]Guys

We've been asked to comment on the new impreza as a community.

Who by Subaru or Prodrive???

I have not been impressed by any photos of the standard WRX.

The photos of the WRC look more promising Not keen on the shape of the front droopy grill. Don't think the shape of the rear boot lid lights look right either. 3 blade rear spoiler impossible for rear view loose the two lower ones
Like the twin exhausts either side.
Hope STI will come with good bucket seats and adjustable steering for and aft as well as up and down.
Paddle shift too

Hm... not overwhelmingly supportive, then!

I guess the trouble is, the UK community is really only interested in the WRX and STI versions, details of which just aren't available yet. I've no doubt that we'd happily get excited about a car with (say) 300bhp from a 2.5 litre engine with ATD as standard - but without that information, the styling of the base models is about all we have to go on. So...

Against: As others have said, looks like just another hatch - really very uninspired.
For:: The prospect that the STI really will have performance to get excited about

Having seen one in the flesh (just the NA version) I have to say the looks aren't the problem: all scoobs are ugly. The problem is that for a hatchback it has a tiny boot - only 2/3 the size of a newage, if that. That alone would stop me buying one, not the looks.

Pros - keeps the same great engine.
Cons - looks like too many other cars, lost it's identity.

It will be branded as just another 'hot hatch'

Put the resale value of the older ones up though probably

Now has the looks to emulate the marque's current and recent performance in the the WRC - mediocre.
Has certainly contributed to the Classic being an all-time cult car
