Default Are Subaru tying it on??

I have been in contach with Subaru about my MAF
They got back to me today saying, the MAF i need has been modifyed, so when i buy it i also need to buy a new housing and a few screws to make it fit.
They have to be imported in from Japan and i have to pay 20% deposit
The total price is about £165

Why cant i just buy the original part i need?
Why have they "Modifyed" this parrt?

Now i dont have a problem with leaving a deposit or with the price, thats if they are bing genuine with me.

You don't need the housing. Speak to Scoobyclinic, API ,RCMS or similar and score what you need for around £80

Subaru dealers always try it on.
Got a price for STI mudflaps the other day. He told me £50, which i thought was ok for x4.
He then pointed out the price was £50 each!!!!

I find it best to get the part number first. If I ask about a part without knowing the part number then I get this,

"what car is it for?" then "is it an import?" followed by "ooooh, I'll have to fax that off to Japan mate, let you know tomorrow"

Hit em with the part number & it goes more like "yes sir, got three of those in stock, £82.67 plus the VAT"

You can usualy find the part number for what you want on here or Google

That sounds like crap, they should still be producing the old ones. Aren't car munfacturers required to produce parts for vehicles up to like 10 years old???

Part No 22794AA010 all you need is a T20 secure torx bit to undo the screws or a normal torx bit if you snap out the centre pins

Just replaced my MAF (1999 STI) Dealer price was £92.

You don't really need the security bits to remove the screws, I took them out with a pair of pliers then just replaced them with ordinary bolts afterwards.
