Default Car decisions, advice welcome

Struggling to make a decision at home.

My Scoob is at risk of becoming a tow car.

Here is the story:
Other half needs to get rid of a car. Here is the household list.

Race car - will stay
Mondeo V6 estate - current tow car
S2 elise - fun
My scoob - just mine

Other half would like to sell the Mondeo and use my scoob as the tow car. I fuss over my scoob and am not keen on it being a part time workhorse.
Benefit to me is that he would pay towards running costs of the car.

Next option is he sells the Elise. This means my scoob continues its nice life and he doesn't have anything fun for road driving, just the Mondeo.

Other option, sell the scoob and Mondeo and get a turbo wagon or something similar.
I don't want to drive an estate though.

Other option.... there must be more.

I think my car getting a tow bar fitted is sensible, but my car wont be my special thing anymore, this is hard to accept.

Advice welcome as something has to go.

I'd ditch the Mondeo and tow with the scooby. It's only a machine, and actually using it really isn't going to wreck it. (I was a bit 'precious' about my first Impreza, right up until its engine blew for no good reason. Now I'm on my third, and though I enjoy it, it's just a machine to be used, looked after, but ultimately replaced).

You really can't ask someone to sell their Lotus and drive a Ford every day - that's just not fair or reasonable. You've not suggested, for example, selling the Subaru and driving the Ford yourself, which would be no worse really.

How about: sell both the Lotus and the Ford, and replace them with something more fun as a daily driver? My daily transport is a BMW 330D which is a great car and perfect for towing.

Andy, thanks.

I have to accept the car is just a machine.

I also know I should be more adult about this

Sorry... you're making me feel guilty now!!

I do know exactly how you feel - my car was my reliable, faithful friend up until the big ends went. I never felt the same about it after that, nor any other car for that matter

At least I don't take the odd dent or scratch so personally any more...

I'm going to take a punt and guess you don't have any kids with that car list

My opinion would be sell the Mondeo and get a deteachable towbar fitted to your Scoob (making it as descreet as possible) only if it is going to be low usage as a tow car. Otherwise, why not sell the Scoob and Mondeo and get a Forrester STi to fill both fun and brawn gaps.

To be used once every few weeks through the summer.

Other half suggested a Forrester, but I thought I was too young for that.

I do hope we are not talking about caravans, I don't come on here to talk about shed pulling. Get a life and get yourself on a proper holiday!

I think that sounds reasonable enough to go a for a 'hidden' towbar on your pride and joy.

You haven't said how young you are, but the Foz STi looks mint, but not as good as an Impreza so I guess you wont be going there

Good luck with the decision and hope you get a blast in the 'race car' now and again - whatever that is.

The thread is not too long to read it all before replying is it? It was stated that there is a race car in the family, so an educated guess would say that is being towed.

Tell him to sell his elise. Had 1 a few years ago and I can't stand the things.

Sorry, the very mention of the word TOWBAR brings me out in a cold sweat and the thought of being stuck behind hundreds of CARAVANS on a dream ideal scooby type road!

I understand where you are coming from on the caravan front, but try thinking of a towbar as being used to pull a serious track machine around instead and you may start needing less 'BO-derant'

If you see a tow bar, it doesn't always mean caravan!
