Anyone got any ideas?

I've had the windows adjusted to try to stop wind noise from near the mirror (hah some chance!) and now occasionally when I close the door, the glass gets over that bit of plastic that sticks out from just below the arial. This means that the door doesn't make a seal at all by my ear. Oh its a MY99 UK car BTW.

What is the point of this plastic bit? Can I cut it off?

I noticed that these bits are on quite a few cars in the car park but I still haven't got a clue as to their use.

I thought that plastic bit was to guide the window "home" as it shuts, especially when the vehicle's driving at speed when the wind gets behind it.

 

I was told years ago that they were there to quieten the airflow down the side of the car. How they do that by breaking it up I don't know but then I ain't an aerodynamicist

 

I was advised by my dealer that they stop the airflow from pulling the windows outwards at speed. My old Intergale didn't have them, and at 130 or so you could see daylight round the tops of the doors as they bent outwards...

 

They guide the window into the seal, most frameless doors have them, in fact most south eastern asian (?) cars have them, they also stop the window coming out at speed.
