Default Question for Forester Owners

I test drove a 99 plate Turbo S recently, but something has been bugging me since.

I know it is a baby turbo, fitted to those cars, but should the Turbo give a little kick when it hits boost, or is it so small that you just never really feel it.

I have to say it just felt 'flat' whist accelerating and not like a turbo at all.

Two things to know, yes it is a baby turbo, and its on full boost (in fifth) at 1400rpm (read it and weep all you big turbo junkies) with over 90% of peak torque from about 1,700rpm, so no you are never going to feel much of a jolt when it starts boosting, as its pretty much boosting all the time!

However Forester dump valves (different to Impreza) are famous for going soft and leaking all the boost away, it can be fixed by some pipework tweaks, fitting a stock Impreza DV or an aftermarket one (not recommended with the small turbo as most aftermarket ones are not progresive enough in action).

Pm me if you want more details as I have travelled all three routes on mine and am now running an Impreza take off DV courtesy of that well known auction site!
