" SUBARU SLASHES SERVICE INTERVALS.....
Subaru has extended its service intervals to 12,000 miles for normally-aspirated cars and 10,000 miles for turbo models, from the 2002 model year. The initial 1,000 mile service has also been dropped from the schedule. The move will mean a halving of service times over a typical four year ownership period.
7 January 2002"
So does this apply to the e-STI too?

Have they changed anything on the car to mean that the service intervals can be changed or are they basically admitting that the car didn't need a service every 7500 miles and thanks for all the money guys?
I'd still change the oil frequently if the service intervals were extended, but I'd do it myself rather than pay garage prices.

Have spoken to 2 dealers who have both said off the record for now, that the new service interval of 10,000 miles will be on all WRX new shape models not just MY02.New service books will be issued at your next service.

Hmmm, great news if all WRX's are now at 10k intervals cos that'll save me some dosh. I guess it depends if they did do anything different internally to the car on the MY02???
I guess IM or dealers may be reluctant to relax on the MY01's cos it will affect their income!

Defo up for this. I only registered my MY01 is Sept 01. Its a croc of shi* what they say about it starting on the 01-01-02. What would that do to the re-sale value of a car registered on the 31-12-01. Compared to the later car the value would plummit even though both cars were the same.
Nathan..

Bought MY01 WRX wagon, registered 1st November 2001.
Dealer said verbally that service intervals were due to be reduced some time soon. Their strong indication was that this would also apply to the vehicle I was buying.
Popping in to see them this weekend.... will post the results.

Nobody's really picked up on the most concerning bit. Servicing your car is not about maintaining warranties etc - It's about looking after your car. I would be a bit concerned that the 1,000 mile service is being missed out. When cars left the factory, I believe they were fitted with a finer engine oil and filter to aid running in. If this is no longer happening, this could have an effect on long term reliability.
On the other hand, maybe this is IM's ploy to reduce customer complaints. Less visits to the dealer = less complaints!

So whats going to happen to my imported MY02??? Does this mean i do not need a 1000 mile service???
Has anything been agreed by IM??? If so, i think all UK MY01 & MY01/MY02 import owners should get together & write a letter of complaint to IM. What do you lot think??

Subaru dealers know they will have very p*ssed of customers if they say only cars after 01/01/02 will get 10,000 mile services.
The 1000 mile service is still in place on all cars it then moves to every 10,000 opposed to 7,500.The 2 dealers i have spoken to have both said they have told IM that it should affect all WRX cars MYO1 and MY02 it shouldnt come down to a cut off date, ie 01/01/02.
I guess we shall have to wait and see.
(Personally i will still change my oil mid way between intervals)

Follows Verbatim Press release from IM Group Ltd:-

SUBARU STREAMLINES SERVICE INTERVALS
Subaru is streamlining its service intervals, resulting in significant running cost savings for both high and low mileage customers.
For example, typical servicing times over a four year period will be effectively halved. A Forester 2.0 litre owner will now pay only £225.28 for parts and lubricants instead of £536.44 (exc. VAT), while the labour time over 4 years is reduced from 15.8 hours to 8.6 hours.
Traditionally, all Subarus have required an initial 1,000 mile inspection/oil change followed by a minor service at 7,500 miles or 6 months whichever arrived soonest and a full service at 15,000 miles or 12 months.
It meant new car customers would face three dealer visits in one year regardless of the miles driven.
Now, the 6 month service has been eliminated and all naturally aspirated 2002 Model Year Subarus will require a 12,000 mile/12 months service only, apart from the initial 1,000 mile inspection check.
Subaru's 2002 MY turbocharged models plus the Outback 3.0 litre H6 have had their service intervals extended to 10,000 miles or 12 months whichever arrives soonest.
These running cost reductions follow an extensive evaluation of the `real world' inservice record of current Subaru models.
Public Relations Department, Subaru (UK) Limited,
West Bromwich, West Midlands B70 OEJ, 0121 522 2000
SO they still have 1000 mile service
Hope this helps
