Which one??

Which one??
Hi all.
As the title says really. I may be in market for a new scooby soon (or a very low mileage second hand one.)
The thing is, I dont' know a lot about them, all I do know is they look good fun and sound nice.
If you had a budget of say around 25 grand what would it be? The GB270 sounds good although the STI seems to be the weapon of choice.... is there much of a difference, apart from price . I have owned TVR's for the last few years so I'm looking for something a bit more user friendly.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks all
Pat..

Spec C or 2nd hand T25 spec C
The spec C is a lightweight version of the Japan spec STI with a few extra tweaks. Japanese Distribution models are superior to uk equivalents in near enough every way.

If you want comfort then dont buy the spec c, that stands for specification competition, is lighter with no sound proofing, no deadlocks lighter glass etc.
If you want a nice 25k car then go have a look at Litchfield Imports and see what they have in stock

For 25k, i would either:
- Get a 2nd hand Type 25
- Get a Spec C and highly modify it. £17k car, £8k mods would be very nice!
...or save/steal/loan another £5k and get a Spec C RA or RA-R.

Well you have the new GB270 which is the last outing for this line of Impreza WRX's.
Then STI Type UK - a UK spec car with warrenty etc, JDM STI - import STI with more power different bits and bobs and generally regarded as a much better car to the UK model.
Spec C - Lightweight STI, not to everybodies taste for a daily drive kind of car, doesn't come with the creature comforts.
Type-25 - Made by Litchfield in either Spec C or Spec A (discreet model, leather, small spoiler etc), link above somewhere.

I recently was in the same position as yourself Pat, had £25K to spend and wanted an Impreza.
After considering all options I decided to go for a 2007 Impreza STi Type UK, have a click on View My Scooby to see.
I managed to haggle the price of the car down to £21200 from £23500, the price I paid also included nearly £1K of extra's ranging from full tax, Metasat subscription, Prodrive Flaps, STi mats etc
So with having £3800 spare, I have spent £1350 on the car in the first 2 weeks getting myself a quality Kenwood/Alpine stereo set up, an Afterburner Vortex cat back exhaust system and a Revolution front splitter installed.
Now with the extra cash left over I'm going to go for a remap and one or two extras to take the car upto around the 350bhp/370lb/ft mark.
I'm over the moon with the car, it really is astonishing to drive, with your budget I wouldn't bother looking at WRXs or GB270s, although they are fantastic motors, with your budget its STi all the way. Like others have said Spec C's are a more raw version of the Type UK STi, however, if its going to be your daily drive/family car I'd suggest having a prolonged test drive in one to see if you can deal with it as an everyday car. Although it sounds a bit silly in the whole sceme of things, the Type UK STi is a decent compromise in the whole range, spend a few bob on it and you will have a monster!
Hope this helps.

Classic! Love the sticker on the rear spoiler.
I'm getting the horn again for one of those WRC rear spoilers.

It's hard to be specific of Models and year changes so this is a very "generalised" statement so hope it is of use
WRXUK= 240bhp 5 speed
WRXUK PPP = 270bhp 5 speed
STiUK = 270 bhp 6 speed
STiUk PPP = 300bhp 6 speed
STi JDM = 300bhp 6 speed
STi JDM REMAPPED = 327bhp 6 speed
STi JDM TYPE 20 = 350bhp 6 speed
SPEC C JDM TYPE 20 = 360bhp 6 speed
SPEC C/STi/ A LINE JDM TYPE 25 = 410bhp 6 speed
best models are 2005 and newer
2006 UK's have 2.5ltr engines JDM's reatin 2.0ltr
Best UK spec look out for PPP, PHP and PF7's best UK made lately is the RB320. But try a JDM first .
If you want a
1) unsure of Scooby ownership = UK
2) 3 year warranty = UK/EU
3) Subaru gokart = JDM Spec C
4) A real quick gokart = JDM Spec C Type25
5) better Specification = JDM
6) Comfort = Spec D or A line
7) JDM warranty 12month can be extended
8) Prodrive PPP etc = do not effect the warranty
IMHO
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market
PPP = Prodrive Performance Pack
PHP = Prodrive Handling Pack
PF7 = Prodrive 18" wheels
Spec C = Specification competion (Lightwieght)
RA = Race Altered
RA-R = Race Altered special edition (awesome)
WRXUK= 240bhp 5 speed
WRXUK PPP = 270bhp 5 speed

Its a true statement though, mechanically the JDM car is far superior to its uk equivelant, gearboxes seem the same but the UK ones have plastic parts compared to the JDM's metal, engines are totally different, the JDM one being twin scroll and somewhat stronger than the UK one, more extra's on the JDM car (see where its going ) and totally different to drive over a uk car, much better power band and more out of the box power (plus quick rack steering etc).

Ah you boys are just biased :P
I've always had a UK STi, other halfs brother had a MY05 Spec C RA from Litchfields. At the time JDMs were far superior but the UK car now is a lot better, HIDs, A-DCCD, etc. Plus have you seen the figures the remapped UK 2.5s are getting with a 3" Exhaust 370/390, their not that shabby.
Anyway all I'm saying is don't be too hard on the UK cars, they are catching up and I wouldn't be suprised if the MY08 is almost identical to the JDM one for spec.

To be fair though it's about time the uk spec did catch up. I think its a complete p*ss take to be spending more for less hence why i went the JDM route.
