Default Top Speed

What have you guys had out of your cars on private roads or runways of course! ???

I've not really tested mine on top speed but was wondering that they should hit 160mph on the clock no problem??

Any of you guys gone off the clock?

I know someone thats had a classic off the clock. Far from standard and strong enough to cope with the power. Scoobs don't like those high revs for any length of time. It melted (forged pistons too).

If your car is anything like the scoobs I have owned, 160mph 'off the clock' probably equates to a 'real speed' of 74mph!

Really, why is that?? Are Subaru clocks that much out?

Anyway the question I'm asking is what speeds have you guys hit in your Subarus? We always here about 0-60 and fast acceleration but not ever seen anything on Top Speed.

All speedos are out by atleast 10% anyway...

No, all speedos are required to over-read by anywhere between 0 and 10%. If my sat nav is anything to go by, the speedo in my '05 JDM STI (recalibrated from km/h to mph electronically) was out by about 1%, my BMW 330D about 2%, my '96 STI (recalibrated just by replacing the clock face) also about 2% and my '96 Nissan Primera over-read by the full 10%.

You don't hear much about top speeds for several reasons:
- posting "I've had mine up to xxx mph" is what the police call "evidence"
- the scooby really isn't built for it

That said, I did give mine a good run on a derestricted section of German Autobahn a couple of years ago. It gets very noisy, the car bumps and shakes a lot, and the brakes no longer feel half as effective as you'd want them to be. I wouldn't do it again.

The higher the speed, the higher the over-reading. so it may only overread 2/3 mph at 30 mph but prob 10/15mph at 150.

My classic wagon did 144mph at Scooby Shootout in 2006...it was showing about 152 on the speedo.

Plenty of classics were doing over 150mph.

I think Andy F's Classic has done a bit more than that....erm....210mph or so.

Same here

Although in my Corsa there is a big difference. When the speedo reads 50mph the GPS only says 44mph

Up at around 140mph or so. Its funny it flies right round to there and just wont go any further - even though its not quite at the red line.

Doesnt really matter as everyone knows that the fastest car on the road is actually a 1.0 Corsa with Halfords bodykit, big bore exhaust ( "and air filter mate, thats good for at least an extra 100bhp" ) 4 scallies in baseball caps and bumfluff taches and weighed down with half a ton of speakers, pumping out 10 year out of date jungle music.

Us Impreza owners can only dream of the speeds these cars are capable of.

I've been on German Autobans quite a few times, inc 4 visits to The Ring

All JDM/EU/UK scoobs(unmodded) have Top speed limiter as well as Rev limiter.

No real fun in it and not good for engine, I'm not even keen on 1/4mile drag racing my car but you have try it

Mine indicated,

MY99UK PPP 155mph
MY02STiUK PPP 162mph
MY99STi Type R V-LTD 174mph
MY06JDM Type20 never felt the need to

so in short boring, possibly expensive and dangerous.

[friday afternoon sarcasm]

so if i say that i saw 160 mph on the clock, that means i will get carted off to jail....

oops, i just did...

ready to be taken away now.....

If I say that my lad is a full 10 inches - will every trouser snake loving lady this side of bognor regis attack me?

err, no...because one of these might actually be a lie.....or both, or neither...

I'd say about 15-20% by the time you reach the end of the clock.

Think mine is near about 36-38, when those speed signs say i'm doing 30.

Had my MY93 WRX to just over 140mph a couple of times. It gets there easily enough, but by then the engine is nudging the red line, so it hasn't stayed there for long!

I'd guess that if it had a 6th gear it would probably go a bit faster....but then that isn't really what a scooby is all about

In an emergency I went a smidge above 170 and sustained it for 30 secs or so in my first scoob. WRX with a UK gearbox fitted so had longer legs. Still find threads like this silly tho

The speedo on my classic is the most accurate in any car I've owned - only over-reads by 2 or 3 mph at speeds over 100. Used to have a Mondeo in which an indicated 130mph was a real 107mph on the GPS!

Did 140 on the Autobahn near Singen on Monday. There was a bit too much traffic about to see if it would go any faster....
