Hey there lads 'n' lasses.

I'm 24, have been driving for a number of years, and have a clean licence.

Driven all sorts of vehicles, Land Rovers, Escorts (cars & vans), astras (cars & vans), sherpa vans, you name it.

Yet upon getting a new job for myself and realising a promise which i made to mayself some years ago, i got my self a nice silver scooby.

It's only the SPORT, could'nt afford the big boys toys, but it's a scooby none the less.

I have had it seven months now, and have been stopped by the Police at least once a week, for lets hear it "Just a routine check Sir".

If i had a pound for everytime i heard that saying, i would have a nice new toy to play with.

Am i being paranoid, or does anyone else have the same problems ?

same problem here , I'm 24 driving an RB5 . The police follow me all the time. I've only been stopped once for the " Routine "

It gets right on my nerves.

I used to get this all the time, virtually every night. I even got stopped by the same copper twice in one week at one point

However this was before i had the scoob and i have to say in the 7 months i have had it, i havent been stopped once.
I have even pushed my luck sometimes by booting it past them not exceeding the speed limit of course

If that is true (once a week) then you should complain to the Divisional Commander. It will then be raised as a briefing item to all shifts to leave you alone if you have not actually committed an offence. This usually works, but if not you would have to make a formal complaint.

Cheers

Cool

Thanks for the replies,

Must be my charming good looks, i say that not because i'm big headed or anything like that.

My twin brother lives/works in London, he has a 2.2 Astra GTI, and guess what, yep he gets stopped more frequently than I do.

Must be a phase, think i'll ask the next one for his/her badge number and the phone number of a superior.

Cheers ppl.

Baldyman,

You need the officers station name, his/her badge number and the name of his inspector.

Don't let them bully you!

Just on the flip side, might be worth getting friendly with the officers that stop you (obviously not if it becomes really obtrusive as mentioned above) and then if they see someone else driving your car they might stop them as well just to make sure its not nicked.

Personally never happened to me but I know it is quite common, especially with the number of Scoobs that get stolen random checks are quite common.

If a young lad with short hair had stolen your car and the police did nothing I'm sure it would be a different story.

An observation that's all.

Good idea, get to know them, why did'nt i think of that.

Can't say I've had that problem... I'm 21 driving an RB5 WR and have only been stopped once in 4months. That was for going a litle bit too fast... they didn't have proof so just checked everything. Phew!

Sorry to hear about your predicament... as said earlier grab badge number and complain about bullying.... might help!

Fingers crossed it doesn't start happening to me.

Good luck.

I wouldn't get too upset - at least they are on the case. As someone said, take it as an opportunity to get to know them, it may come in handy if you ever do get caught speeding or if your car does go missing. A good start would be a joke about how often you get stopped for routine examination...
I have never been stopped (27, short hair and never in a suit) - I think it is a locality thing - the Impreza isn't at all special down here

I am 25 driving a P1 all i get is nice smiles from the coppers when i cruise past them, i normally give them a cheeky wink tho for badness sake!

Never been stopped, however must admit i am too scared to space my private plate dodgily now. Should read P1 5OOB but i leave it spaced legally. 1000 quid from wrong copper aint worth it!

P1 Enthusiast,

I have a similar plate to yours and I have a space either side of the single digit. I think as long as it is legible and not taking the pi55, they won't stop you. In your case I think you'd be fine. I have had the plate for 5 years now with that space and not once been stopped for "incorrect spacing"

Maybe they just like the look of me Young Blonde Bird !! hahahahahaha
Well at least you know they are on the case in case your car gets nicked they know who owns it !!! if you know what I mean!

Wink

Got stopped 4 times in one night last year. A black guy had stolen a DBM scoob earlier that night and guess what, i ain't white

Really hard to remain polite cos if they have been told to look out for a scoob, they must have been given the Reg No. aswell.

Never mind, could have been my nicked scoob they were stopping.

I do get your point ppl, i suppose they will know who owns the car by now. So if it ever gets nicked they will know where to bring it when it's found ( well whatever is left of it ).

Some of us are on first name terms, well they call me by my first name and i shout 'Sir, Yes Sir' in an army styleeee. (joke)

Would not dare speak back to lovely police man/woman ........ Sir, Yes Sir.

I'm waiting for the 'I know your name...I know where you live' in a dodgy Irish accent, that'll make it all worth while being pulled.

When I was 24, was pulled over at 4am (on my way to work) on Sussex country roads, in my 205GTI. The guy had put the blue lights on to pull me over, so I was a bit worried. Soon as I opened the door he smiled and said "Just checking it's not stolen" (no screwdriver in the ignition).

Was first a bit peeved that I'd been pulled, but then realised I'd be bloody glad if it was someone else driving my car off.

Go to the station, bring it to their notice, say you appreciate what they're doing etc. They might even be nice to you when you swap your sport for something a bit more powerful

Thumbs down

Baldyman I know what your going through.......

I bought my RB5 in October 2000 and for the first 3 months or so I was being stopped everywhere, I was even stopped 11 times in one week by the local conts....It was well past the point of harrasment but it all stopped when I started coaching Rugby again and found out that most of the local Billy were members of the club.

All you need to do is join the local Rugby Club and you'll be sorted

At 21 when i got my first Impreza WRX i got stopped a few times,3 nights on the run!!
But after that, the coppers round here get to know all the performance cars.As long as you look after it(good tyres ,tax etcetc)they tend to leave you alone.
Now at 23 ive a Evo 4,and they dont bother me (apart from giving the dissaproving glance cos of the miniture number plate).

I got stopped more when i were 17/18 driving a Nova 1.3sr!!!

Think about this.....

We all whinge that cops dont do enough to stop car crime and then when they pull you over for a routine check they complain!!!!

How you you think they catch car theives, they pull over "target" cars like scoobies and check out the owner. IF they pull over someone who has just nicked your car and catch the git you would be happy.

So I would thank them for taking an interest in protecting your property.

I agree with Gran Tourismo but when your stopped five times in one week by the same Astra Panda car driven by the same police men wouldn't you get just a little bit pi55ed off?

I seem to go through phazes, I had a shagged out mkII Escort and got stopped 3 times in one week, then I got my Fiesta (3 years old at the time) and got stopped a few times then nothing for 2 years, then I got stopped 3 times in a week again!

The last time was funny tho, this copper leaps out of his scoob, gives me a telling off for cutting him up ( a little harsh I thought) and then asks to see my liscense...well it was in a milion bits, which didn't go down well at all!! Anyway, there's a gap in the conversation so I says to him " how's the car going then...Ok, it's just that I fitted a new front end to it last week"! he handed my liscense back and sent me on my way

Once a week! Surely not You mean approx 30 times in 7 months! Is it always by the same copper? Perhaps he/she fancies you or is lonely and wants a chat.

Surely if it is the same plod week after week they would get the message that you are not Public Enemy #1
