We all speed at times but 82mph in a 50 zone, in no emergency, is taking the **** a bit like. Don't know you so not judging, but if I read you got a ban or a hefty fine you wouldn't get any sympathy from me.

(Again not knowing the road) What if a pedestrian stepped out? They wouldn't have had a hope in hell.

Let's not judge too much.

We don't know if it's one of those special speed traps where the police fix a camera 0.5 metres from a dual carriageway into a 30 zone on a straight piece of road, wide enough to land a jumbo without a pram or OAP in sight.

If driving is your livelihood then you will probably get a large fine and enough points to make you behave for 3 years. It would be harsh to risk someones job and the welfare of a family over a relatively trivial offence and courts usually show compassion if you can prove your license is essential with letters from your employer, and that you are the primary breadwinner in the household.

I can't comment on your speed. I've done considerably worse when I've deemed it safe, but have been lucky not to get caught as yet.

We have all been guilty of giving it some at some time. It all depends on the time and the place.
old bill normally target somewhere wide open with a 30 limit knowing the coffers will be full by the end of the shift

did you get a ticket at the road side or were you caught on a camera ?

if you were nip at the scene notification of intended prosocution ,you will be served with a summons within 14days .

if your over 25 mph over the speed limit your looking at maybe a ban or a hefty
fine , the court will take into consideration the weather conditions the traffic
conditions ie 3pm on a friday afternoon or in your favour 3am (no traffic)
brace yourself young man there isent a excuse in the world that can condone your actions and sadly there are to many pepole out there doing the same as you have ,

Number of questions, what van on what type of road ? (non car derived vans are limited to 50 on a single carriageway of course).....

Were you pulled over or do you think you've been done by a Scamera van?

upto 25 over the limit they can issue a fixed penalty, but go to court and its 4-5 points and larger fine, 30 over its 6 points and a large fine, over 30 over and they will CONSIDER banning you, over 35 over and a ban is a foregone conclusion.

If you have had your licence less than 6 months (OK unlikely for a scoob owner) 6 points is a revocation of licence (so you have to apply for a new one and take the tests!)

If you were stopped you were issued with a verbal Notice of Intent to Prosecute (NIP - "you will be reported for consideration for prosecution for the offence of speeding" or very similar) a information for a summons has to be laid within 6 months the summons of the alleged offence can arrive later (slightly different if its in Scotland) - if its a Scam van then the NIP has to arrive at the registered Keeper within 14 days (certain caveats apply though).

If your speedo said 82, you were probably doing 77!

i was in the work van(tranny) with seats and windows in the back,its 60 in that on a dual carriage way.the thing is i dont no if i was in a 70 zone or 50 ,as the copper never said when he pulled me ove,i no he pulled me over in the 50,but im sure he gunned me in the 70(60 in van).so im either 22 over or 32 over ??

Right first off i don't condone speeding but to say i never do it would be hypocritical of me.

I think some of the speed limits these days are ridiculous - a dual carriageway near where i work used to be a 60 in one section going down to a 40 in another (rightly so) where there was a set of traffic lights and junctions.

There were a few accidents over a number of years in the 40 zone so they decided to make the whole dual carriageway a bloody 40 and make it a single lane.

Surprise surprise there is a camera van often there picking off people that stray a little - ****ing sucks if you ask me.

There is another example of a dual carriageway near me that was reduced to a 50 - totally just for the sake of it - there were no more accidents on stretch of road than anywhere else.

I'm no boy racer and don't go around flooring it all the time but the whole speeding situation has been blown out of context over the last 5 or so years.It's purely a revenue excuse.

You're always going to get your numpty's whether there are speed limits or not but most people do take into account weather,driving conditions etc when driving.

Its notoriously hard to fight a 'pull', at 22 over he would normally (but doesn't have to) offer you a fixed penalty, if he didn't it may well be 32 over......

Not much you can do then until you get a summons, at which point get over to Pepipoo for the best advice.

there is no 70 zone on a duel carriageway the national max speed limit is 60mph on a duel carriageway and 70mph on a motorway

Speed limits on Dual carriageways were updated a number of years ago. 70mph cars and Derivatives. 60 mph for Vans. And 56 mph for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.
Suggest you join the 21 century bushiwarrior.

I believe that law has changed now,instead of three penalty points you get a straight six points in one go,and a hefty fine..
