Remap or turn to the Darkside?
Drove my mates fq 300 today and wow what a difference! Firstly, i did'nt wanna do it but after letting him having a go in mine he insisted i try his.
Don't know if it was the five speed box or what, but the car just felt so much more responsive and his brembo brakes so much better than mine. These two cars are supposed to be running approx the same bhp,but his felt a good 20 horses more. Anyway we are off to powerstation in a few weeks time because he wants 350bhp and they can do it for 1500quid,only thing is i really don't wanna be left behind so do i get a remap whilst we are there or do i call it a day,cut my losses and join the dark side?

You don't need the darkside try a JDM Scoob, the differnce between UK and JDM are twinscroll Turbo and 8KRPM, you won't go back to a UK performace is not just about peak power but how it is delivered
so while your at Powerstation ask Iain litchfield for a go in one
IMHO

Depends what you want from your car really. They both have their selling points.
Seems pricey for a remap too, cost me £550 with Andy Forrest. It was a group buy though and I think he normally charges £100 more. Probably too far North for you but I think you should shop around.

Its very tempting - I almost went for an FQ300 but I just love my car, its got more character, just as quick, handles nicely, plus its a lot cheaper to run and insure.
I still want an Evo but it wont be for a long time, if ever. Stick with your scoob and get the remap.

Go shopping, come back = Service on an Evo
My JDM Legacy is 290 BHP out of the box, 45 BHP more than a UK 3.0 R Spec 6 pot and better spec too.
I am thinking of the re-map route too. All my other Scoob's got mapped at PS. Only £550 + VAT did the fuel pump and Filter myself.

because Mainly due to UK & EU emmisions etc so different Turbo and Cats.
Although suspension is can be too hard for general UK roads
they are selling to there Home market and more competition
My 06 JDM 20ltr with twinscroll Turbo with just a REmap for UK fuel 329BHP, pulls steady from 2.3Krpm to 7.3Krpm so a 5K power band. UK cars are about 2.9Krpm -6.2Krpm so 3.3 Krpm and peaky power band
A sports Cat and exhaust and little tweak 350-360 Bhp pulls from roughly 2Krpm to 7.5Krpm so a 5.5Krpm power band
This make quite abit of difference on "In gear" accerleration times, my car in 5th gear @ 2.5rpm would probably out excellerate a UK car in 4th at the same speed
IMHO IIRC

Guys remember there is a fairly big price difference in these cars from new and the FQ-300 was always good for 300+ BHP whilst the STi PPP in a lot of cases struggled to get 300bhp
I just wish that Subaru had the same thinking as Mitsubishi and actually gave us the same car in the UK as the JDM.
We are getting closer but still not there yet.

I too would also say stick with you Impreza, I'm sure they are a better daily car to live with.
Plus have you ever noticed when they do road tests on these two cars together, the Evo is always a spec 1 or 2 grades higher than the Impreza(scooby standard STI, sometimes PPP, Evo FQ/MR320 or 340), so what does that tell you. Get your Impreza upto the same power and wonder why you ever thought about swopping!.

You can go over to the dark side but i bet you end up coming back, i know i did, the evos are good in thier own right but there is just something about a scoob that always pulls you back!

i took mates evo6 rs2 arround elvington and its bloody quick! standard car.pulls like a train! 280@wheels 300lb of torque have also been round in mates 95 ra evo a lot quicker but ra does handle a lot better.happy to stick with my standard sti v3 taken it around blyton but need to upgrade brakes to do elvington.think ill stick to scoobs.

Thanks for all the advice guys, think i will end up keeping the scoob mainly due to the fact that the mrs prefers it to the shape of the evo 8 and also i would sorely miss the sound of her(the car that is!) TBH, when i first heard my mates evo8 approaching,i was sitting in a pub beer garden and i thought it was some chav in a vectra gsi! Gonna let the warranty expire and then let rip!

my mate has just bought an evo 8 fq320 mr, fast but told him it sounded like any other corsa with a big exhaust. and all he could say was "well its faster than your scoob". should be at 17k. as above 2.5k in mine will only give me @ 5bhp less and sound like a proper car, think i'll stick with the scoob.

I went from bug to evo IX and i wont be coming back, its all down to preference and what you want. For my needs the evo is far superior and build quality IMO is better, no rattles or squeaks whoo

If i had enough spare cash i would seriously have a loot at this, i know its the dark side but that is one seriously set up motor. Great price as well for that.

The 9 with exhaust, remap, airbox mod, fuel pump will do 400 BHP and 25mpg with full boost from 2500 RPM in a high gear - MIVEC and the larger compressor housing. Servicing is a pain every 4500 miles though, and they lose about £10k in the first year - makes a good buy then.
I do think a Euro import MY06/07 WRX is superb value though for a daily driver with light mods - eg STI turbo and intercooler, remap, pump, exhaust.
Don't make the mistake of throwing silly money at a Subaru in the wrong spec (eg 5 speed gearbox, 2.0 non-JDM model) though without at least looking at the dark side. You end up on the limits of the gearbox and/or engine before you know it either in terms of strength or the ability to spool a big enough turbo early enough.

I went from an 06 STI to an Evo 8 MR ... love them both but do prefer the Evo ... really wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing or not at the time, but haven't regretted a single second of it ... each to their own I guess
... and mine has 6 gears

Did it have fairly wide Recaros as well? If so, probably the 260.

Right guys, found out it is a 260,apparently running at approx 300bhp but according to the mb dealer it has not had a remap, just a straight through exhaust and uprated spark plugs! Seems a bit suspect to me,anyone know if this power gain is possible without the map?
