Yup, I've seen/heard one of these new Outbacks, quite nice.. shame the 3Ltrs only equates to 209bhp, you'd of thought they could of got more than that...
rgds, Alex
PS. I was speaking to someone the other day who is looking at dropping the Legacy 2.5 twin turbo into an MY98 onwards Impreza, I'll let you know if it happens..

This may have been discussed ages ago and I've missed it, but just been onto the subaru site and clicked on news and they're enthusing about the new outback. No big deal you say, but it's getting a 3L 6 cylinder engine. Now apparently it's only 20mm longer than the 4 cylinder and has 209PS. Now who's going to be first to turbo that up and stick it somewhere...

What about the Justy?
I my mind the most undervalued member of the Subaru range.
Just imagine a 3L mid engined Justy, that would give the Clio V6 a run for its money, turbo or no turbo
Andrew...
PS. If any from Subaru or Prodrive is watching and takes this post seriously - you might want to think about the brakes BEFORE releasing the car

The SVX engine is a lot bigger than the new one in the Outback.
The benefit of the new one is that it could in theory be slotted into a much smaller car than the SVX.
A 3 litre turbo'd Impreza would be very nice...

As the Justy is just a rebadged Suzuki Swift with 4 wheel drive I would hardly call it cool!!
Seriously though do Subaru actually sell any as you can get a much better car for much less money. My local Subaru Dealer have had the same one in their showroom since I bought my car from them (nearly 9 months ago)

Well for a start the bottom of the range Subaru Justy GX 3 Door AWD
5 Speed Manual costs £8,995 and doesn't even have ABS, electric windows or Central locking!!
Think of all the decent, modern superminis you can now get for under 9 grand. If anybody does actually ever buy one of these brand new they need their head examining!!
mmmmmmmmm sex on wheels....

Suzuki Swift is the second worst car I have ever driven. The worst was a Justy. Both have an interior like a 1985 Fiesta, the Justy was geared so high that at 75mph it was clocking 4,500 revs, the steering was far too light initially, then when I tried to go round a bend at about 40mph it was incredibly heavy as it lugged all that 4WD gear around. Pug106/Saxo/Punto/new Fiesta are all *so* much better.

Mind you, the Hungarians seem to make better lights than the Japs.
(Real answer: labour is dirt-cheap in Hungary -- so why are Justy's so expensive?)

I've driven the new 3ltr Legacy outback this week.. quiet, smooth and torquey. Gearbox looks unchanged, so engine is closer to the radiator. It has an alloy cam cover rather than the plastic jobbie. I think they made it to give them more credibility in the six cylinder market, ie: vs maxima/camry/accord....etc. Only avail in wagon form at the mo. Apparently they will use this new engine in the new STX ute project.. designed in the USA of course !!
