Impreza won't start over, any ideas?
I was driving with My97 when all of a sudden the started losing power at times. So I pulled over, switched off and turn on again, however the car would start but with play on lowrevs (under 500rpm approx) and won't respond to the throttle, now it won't turn over at all.
The car definately has fuel in it, all fuses are intact and I bridged the air sensor with a resistor. Then I suspected that the fuel pump might not be working so I disconnected the circled pipe to see if there is any pressure, but wasn't sure if I got the right pipe as there was no pressure at all or fuel squirting when i try to start.
Any ideas? I really need the car for the weekend, and I don't want to tow it 20miles to my mechanic.

I just checked the CEL and it gave me an error of 23 - MAF sensor, no crank angle sensor. To reset the ECU do you disconnect the battery and reconnect it again?
As I'm not convince its something to do with the air flow as not even the fuel pump engages. Also I check the voltage on the fuel pump on ignition on and I only get 4V - is this normal?
Looks like I'll have to use the bus again tomorrow

4V is for the fuel gauge sensor. You should get 12V (Or slightly under it) from the fuel pump connector but only when the car is being cranked... if you get no voltage (IIRC it's the top left pin is +ve and bottom left is -ve, as you look at the connector from the boot) check the connector under the passenger seat in the back, drivers side.
If you are getting 12V then your fuel pump is likely knackered, mine went and I got a new walbro 255 from flatfouronline for £85 delivered (although it took like 2 weeks to arrive so if your in a hurry try somewhere else...)

It's the service hole on the right hand side, which has a connector with about 6 pins (although I think only 4 are used)

It's something like top left and bottom left are fuel pump 12V, top right and bottom right are fuel gauge sensor 5V - do a bit of testing with multimeter (Volts)
Like I say you need to be cranking to get the 12V

Just got the time to work again on the car, and its defiante that the Fuel pump is dead. I just hope I didn't destroy anything else in the process.
My engine is standard and I won't be upgrading it, however is there a better quality aftermarket fuel pump, that will replace the other without any modifications?

nope - just fit and forget, but TBH a standard subaru pump would be OK unless you are running bugger injectors and other mods etc
