Default Another 3" exhaust system question. Sorry

Sorry again.

I recall there was a thread a while ago that some asked what system (3") was the best sounding (not just LOUD) and also what produced better flow from the turbo back for spool up etc.

Can anyone list the best in terms of
A: BUILD QUALITY

B:SOUND

C: LOUDNESS

D: SPOOL UP / FLOW RATE

Sorry if I sound like a parrot on speed.

Cheers
Steve

I've just fitted a 3" Milltek with sports cat in the center section. Very happy with it. Not to loud but has a nice deep note. Build quality is good and spool up is around 2600/700rpm.

It 's exspensive ( £1k) but a good system.

Steve,

I have the Milltek 3" full decat system fitted to my STi RA and find it excellent in every way. Most important, on the noise front - very quiet on tickover, and lovely burble on full "chat".

Quality and fit = 100% recommended.

The tail pipe fits snuggly under the rear bumper, and looks far superior in everyway to some of the dustbins I have seen on other Imprezas.

I have had the car noise tested and it read 98db (cool morning) and 96db (warm morning).

Another for Milltek. Look at my profile for the dyno graph to see the spool etc.

Nice to see Milltek catching on

We have the Revolution 3" system available at £500 for a the full 3" decat system, build quality is good, it fits well and sound isn't too obtrusive. 79dba at idle and 93dba at 4000rpm - compared to a popular brand which measures 98dba on their so called 'quiet' system.

My vote for 3" full decat Revolution aka Jetex system, especially as its half the price of a Milltek.

I would definitely vote for a custom-made one. You can specify each parameter (style/noise etc) and they will make less restrictive bends, giving better flow. Almost like a scaffold pole, off at an angle for backbox, but still not the "S" bends on the likes of the revo one.

Few pics of my Meerkat one in the usual place <----

I've had the revolution one, and the slash tail pipe one is very poor build quality. The tail pipe lOOks like it's blue-tacked on, with nasty bends and joins.

Apparently it flows well, but it was too quiet and poorly made for my liking.

Vote for the TSL Group N and Milltek De-resonated centre section on my car. Had it for a few months now and everyone comments its got a nice deep sound without being overly loud. I think build quality of the pipework and box is very good. Check "Plus Profile" for pics and sound clip. I havent touched the cats so I cant comment on that, but the car is certainly smoother to drive. (Got a good quality panel filter in the airbox too)

Thanks for the replys and feed back guys.

I have a 2.75" Milltek on my car with a Sports Cat downpipe. It didn't have the note I was looking for after my last car had the Vortex afterburner full system but with a Prodrive Sports cat. Note the sports cat again. lol
So I changed the mid section and back box with a 3" bore mated to the 2.75" pipe work. The sound is unleashed but the back box is a little on the big side and not to my liking. I keep catching it on the drop kerb outside my place.

So I have gone full out and just bought the RCM 3" system with Sports Cat D/P. Does anyone know the dba on that?

I have heard the 3" Milltek on a 05 STi and also on a 06 SPEC C RA. But on my car it just didn't sound right with the 2.75" system. I'm liking the Milltek idea of having the sports cat in the mid section. Who's going to be the first company to put a sports cat in the back box like the WRC cars.

I like Frayz a lot. But couldn't stump up that amount. I will have a look at it Frayz on the tunnel run.

funnily enough i changed from 2.75" to 3" in my last round of mods. All RCM gear will be top quality.

I've heard that the Blitz Nur Spec is supposed to sound awesome, and build quality is as you'd expect from a top jap brand.

Is anyone running one actually? as I'm quite keen on getting one for mine if people say more good things about it!

Mocom spec'd Simpson built system.

This is the 4th exhaust ive had on the car as ive not been happy with any so far.
As for the Milltek... i think the quality is pretty average but then you get what you pay for. Cleaner than the Hayward & Scott

The TSL stuff i have seen looks to be good quality, sounds okay too. Better than the Hayward & Scott and the Milltek.

The Revolution system is very very good for the money. Clean flow, does the job well.

The Blitz is nicely made but too loud if you want to use it on track.

The Hayward & Scott systems are also pretty average too. The 2.5" systems are better than the 3" as i think they have the ability to form the 2.5" stuff better. Their 3" stuff was pretty poor. Bends wernt clean, welding was average. Lumps and bumps everywhere in all sections dont help flow.

As with all things, you pay your money you take your choice.

This is quite interesting, and funnily enough exvaux I do start work early, normally leaving the house by 5.30am! but I won't be using the type r for commuting as I have a nice banger of a fiesta diesel for work.

Does anyone have any sound clips of a Blitz Nur Spec? I haven't ever heard one on a scooby in the flesh. I love the sound of the Blitz Nur Spec on an MR2 turbo, obviously one on a scoob will sound completely different, but what I'm trying to say is, if Blitz can make an exhaust sound so good on a straight forward 4 pot engine then I'm sure a flat four would just sound sexual!

By the way, is the Blitz a 3" system or a 2.75"? I'm assuming its 3"

YouTube - 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI with Blitz Nur Spec R Revving

I have a tsl group n backbox, straight through pipe and group a decat, the sound is awesome, just the right amount of noise and not deafening, however if it wasn't for the neighbours i might have bought this bb by now.

Get you through at MOT time?

Decat is the best route for all the OPs original requirements but not road legal for newer cars... totally unfair considering we pay more for our emissions anyway!

Do you really need a 3" system, as opposed to a 2.5", if you are not going for very high power figures? I'm happy with a 2.5" system, sounds

I love the sound of my Blitz Nur Spec R, it is 3" but tapers down to 2.5" where it meets the downpipe so it will fit to a standard downpipe.
A friend had his modified to make it fit a 3" downpipe but it was far too loud and has since been replaced with an RCM system which is much quieter but still sounds great.

I have the 3" Revolution system, with 100mm rolled exit, fitted by Mocom, very well made piece of kit, nice sound not 'chavy' loud.
Made by Jetex I think?

I have a Milltek 3" and don't like it. Much preferred my 2.75" as it was quieter inside the cabin for most of the time and then made much more noise outside when really pushed.

My 3" has dreadfully loud droning in the cabin especially at the crucial range on 2.8 to 4.5k revs. Try driving on motorways outside that range without crawling or ragging it.

I have been in an identical car to mine however and their exhaust is much quieter than mine, so it may be just my exhaust - but then that says to me that there is variability in the manufacture, which there shouldn't be.

After just listening to a load of scoobys with Blitz Nur Specs on you tube I'm hooked!! Love the sound of it, its quite raspy actually and I do like the way it pops and crackles.
