Question Will Drivers of the NEW Impreza be Part of 'the wave' phenomenon

OK lads, face facts, it's not long before these sacriligous pieces of nonsense hit our roads.

It seems about 90% + of the people on SN hate the new shape.

Plus, Subaru say they are trying to aim the car at a different market.

(my guess is, more your 30 year old male with 2 kids who wants something 'sporty' after his Citroen Xsara and not the petrol head fraternity that want a rally rep after seeing McRae & Burns RIP, fly round the muddy Welsh forests).

So.... do they deserve the wave?? or do we tar the car and the owner with the same brush and show the disdain that the car deserves??

whos gonna wave back remember its the focus brigade this is aimed at ffs. This car is not aimed at a market that will wave back,if you wave at some flat capper he will either think he knows you,or that your gay and fancy him,or think your gonna rob him.No flat four rumble either with equal length headers.

so i say no.

I've given up waving anyway now as I can't remember the last time I got one back.

I just give a little nod now and hardly ever get anything back apart from a strange look.

And whoever was driving (and the passenger) in the stickered up newage that blanked me totally on the M4 when I had my caravan on the back after going to rallyday was so ignorant it was unreal. All I got off them was a sneer.

They probably won't see you wave in the first place. The paper bag over their head will obscure most things.

I swallow my pride and wave to bug-eye owners, though I do it with a look of sympathy.
I guess I'll do the same for the 08 owners.

Default Bugs R Best, nearly...

Show some respect, it was good enough for Richard Burns R.I.P. to win a WRC title ! Unlike a certain "new" Impreza, yuk !

Dunx

P.S. the only good looking Impreza is a P1 in my honest opinion....

I will treat the news oes much the same as i treat land rover freelanders when im driving my Series Landy. If they wave I return it, if they don't then nothing.

Most people who buy freelanders will be of a similar mindset as the new impreza, ohh a nice car that suits my needs, when compared to the other vehicles in that market. They don't go out to buy a subaru/land rover, but its something they end up with as the price was good or something

I liked the Model T Ford,of course the Vauxhall Wyvern, ford Anglia, Ford escort but this is 2008, time to move on but don't worry there are plenty of "Old" classic Scoob's around in reasonable nick to keep you Classic folks Happy. we don't moan about the Classic you buy so why moan about the Newage we buy
But If hoping moaning about the Newage, will mean Subaru will make a "Newage Classic ".................... Dream on because it just ain't going to happen.

Then there is that Old chestnut, "bring on the Prodrive "P2" the only way to get the PTW of a Classic iin 2006 is a 2 seater) ........... so much for complaining about The "NEW" Scoob being a Hatchback, when the P2 is neither a 4 seater or a Saloon

You could email Hyundai and see if the Scooby running gear will fit the Accent and then your onto a winner

It is a sad fact that

1) 25% of the peeps who say it looks Poo have only seen a "1.5"
2) 90% of the peeps who say it looks Poo have not seen a "WRX"
3) 95% of the peeps who say it looks Poo have not driven a "WRX"
4) 99% of the peeps who say it looks Poo have not seen a "STi"
5) 90% of the peeps who say it looks Poo wouldn't by the new car even if it did look great.

Other wise there would be 75,000 orders for EVO X off scoobynet alone I think it doesn't it will look anywhere as good in the flesh, Internet talk is sooooo cheap.

IMHO

Can't believe you've been analysing all the posts to obtain people's opinions. What confidence interval have you applied to your stats?

I have seen the new Impreza as I live about a mile from a dealership, I don't know which Impreza I caught a glimpse of as the sight burnt my eyes and I almost crashed the car.

All the people who say 'You'll be driving one soon enough...' are probably right as the sight of the new car on a daily basis will lead to a mass desensitisation, in a similar fashion to Vernon Kaye becoming slightly less irritating with each additional TV show he appears in. (maybe)

Put stats to this then Tony.

I DON'T WANT A HATCHBACK

I bought my first Impreza new in 1997, and since then have owned 5 of them. I currently own a Classic WRX ra track car, and a new age JDM STi. But the only chance of me buying another is for the USA only saloon being sold in Japan as an STi, then I may import one.

I said "no" because they wont know what to wave at... Foci? Seats? New Scoobs? The car they would be driving could be any of the shopping trolley fraternity and it has no individuality so, no I dont think they will...

The same way you got your 90% from by guessing, but still fairly confident

Can i ask have you sat in a WRX or a S-GT? or just seen a 1.5 thing in dealer?

Assuming a 1000 say they hate it, my guess in brackets

so you analize it then and see what fiqure you come up with then Just remember, Up untill a few weeks ago, how many WRX's or S-GT's are in the country and how many have taken out for a Test drive??????

What percentage of peeps do you reckon Have

1) seen the UK 1.5 S or whatever in show rooms. (250)

2) How many do you think have touched and sat in a WRX or S-GT (100)

3) How many do you think have have driven a WRX or S-GT (50 )

4) How many do you think have seen a STi (10)

IMHO

Ford lost my support on a simular issue, they dropped the Escort/Orion sallons and brought out the Focus. I looked hard at a Escort Cossy's but for an old car was a simular price of a newish Impreza. Hence my Scooby ownership.

So you see I'm not that keen on "Hatchbacks" either and would love a saloon option. My 3 kids are now Adults so a hatchback Car is an option but require space for them. The new Car does give everyone more room

I have driven the S-GT in standard form, and it's not for me, shame I didn't drive it after it had been tweaked and some 18"'s though. Inside the Cabin you'll notice two things, the driving position is a lot lower than a Newage and there is more room for 5 tall adults. The extra leg room and the silencer does compromise the boot space.

I am mainly dissappionted with, is the people who Diss the Car from pictures off the internet and not after seeing or trying it I can't wait to see & drive the STi, but if i don't like it then, simple I won't buy it.

Yep I understand, like you I'm disapppointed about the USA only saloon (IIRC they are only doing left hookers). I suspect Subaru are hoping UK "Saloon" peeps will move on the Legacy's, I think the japaneese don't understand UK Buyers.

I do understand what Subaru are trying to do by selling a 5 door hatchback, and no doubt the basic model will sell well. But so did the 2006 1.5R estate model last year, they all sold out in a matter of weeks when priced at £12500.
Subaru have dropped 2 models, saloon and estate, and replaced them with a single hatchback. I've seen no mention of an estate, and I wonder if the gain in customers will be more than the loss.

I do like the look of the STi, it does look nice and agressive with it's WRC wheel arch extensions and quad exhausts. The front looks a little weak especially the grill and scoop, but no doubt the styling companies will see to those.
I also like the interior, my only worry is the seats. They look like the Recaro's that Mitsuishi use, and they are not the most comfortable.

The Impreza doesn't just have the EVO now as it's main rival. Apart from the usual GTi's, VXR's and Focus ST's, the STi also has Audi S3's and BMW's to cope with. So a lot will depend on it's final price, spec and bhp.

The driving position is better much lower down and far more room inside

according to some Specification sheets that have leaked out Recardo's are optional extra's on both JDM & EU, but things might change before the STi's UK birth

I've seen the new Impreza and it looks crap. Subaru are going after a new market with a compromised model which is no where near as good as the leaders in that class and are going to lose badly.

They are committing commercial suicide. I understand what they are trying to do, but they are just going to do a bad job of it. The styling is shocking, I haven't seen a good review of the new 08 model. Average, average, average.............oh yes and an Sti model well they say you can't polish a turd........

I think theres more to worry about in life than expecting some random person waving at you in a car with the same badge, i drive a 99 classic as i like it and its good round the track, couldnt care less if the bloke in the hyundai looking car doesnt wave back.
