Default just had my first 'real' road rage incident...

...and i feel ashamed for some reason.

heres the story.

me and the mrs were on our way to go get a takeaway for our tea. pootling along down a main road, when a guy in a red renault laguna (reg. YK05 OZO), pulls upto the exit of a supermarket carpark which joins the main road. hes travelling pretty quick and seeing me coming has to hit the anchors.

i give him a quick glance, then eyes back on the road. anywho, he starts following me, giving me the lights, hand signals, shouting, everything. im thinking "what the **** have i done wrong".

so i carry on with the mrs to the takeaway. guy follows, and as we pull up on the street outside the takeaway, he pulls up alongside, and proceeds to give me a verbal bashing about driving like a ******

i couldnt believe my ears, and then he starts going on about how sh*t my car is, and how he has an rs2000. by this time cars are queued up behind him, and he pulls up in the pub carpark next to the takeaway. hes just sat there, and staring at me and the mrs.

shamefully, by now im quite scared, as i have nothing to protect myself/mrs with incase this goes nasty, and im not gonna approach him either, especially with the mrs in the car. lock all doors and call the police.

im on the phone, giving details, and relaying his actions, when he gets out and walks acros to my door. now this guy is rather large and stocky, so i sat there talking on the phone, while he tries to get in the car, trying the handles and knocking profously on the windows.

hes mouthing to me to get out etc, but i simply reply (feeling rather like ian beale from eastenders) that im on the phone to the police, you have no chance.

at this he calls me a ******, walks back to his car and waits some more.

couple more mins pass, ive given all details to police, and he starts up and buggers off down the next road turning.

so by this time im quite scared and shaking a little, as this is all new to me. mrs asks if we should still get something to eat, and i reply its maybe safer to stay in the car for a few minutes incase hes waiting round a corner or something.

police say they'll call back, and we set off home.

just called me back for more specifics, but im let down as i dont have an independant witness, only the mrs. wish i had video recorded it all.

so seriously considering something to protect myself with in future. if this can seriously escalate from someone elses problem, what happens if i ever accidentally cut someone up...

since finishing work at 6am, ive had no sleep, no food, and bastid luck all friggin day.
saturday cant come quickly enough

rant over

andy

You should have just ramed him with your car....and without those indipendant witnesses he must have not been looking as you pulled away and he walked in front of you.....Whoops..!

its harder than you think to think in those circumstances. if id have got out, he would have battered me, im too small compared to him. like some sort of rugby playing rep...

not worth the damage to my car. but gonna buy protection... what can i get away with on a legal front.

Hi mate, what the world coming to??

Best thing is foot long Maglite torch, I have it in the car officer just incase i break down.

Police make me laugh, (I know they busy etc) but I thought preventsion was better than cure???

I confronted about 15 14-18year olds throwing mud at cars going past, grabbed one of them after hit my wifes Clio with aload.

Phoned Police to be told I was the second person to report this but they are busy at the moment, by this stage most of them had started to comeback after origanally running away when I picked the first lad up off his feet and said "right who wants it" Neither the less this lads mum turns up swearing at me to fooking let go of her son etc etc. I the realised where he got his manners from.

I then spoke to the mother who then apologises and says she is having terrible problems with him. WTF????

I phone the Police back and say forget it.

Think only way they would have come quickly is if I had smacked a couple of them about like I wanted to or they had caused someone to have a fatal crash.

Andy, this bloke sounds like a nutter, we all have moments but we just get on with it.

Something similar happened to me and my mrs once. I was driving crap Fiesta 1.6Si and been followed by two indian guys in Scoob. They tried to block my way. Their Scoob had smashed front and I thought that when they hit me that makes no difference for them. Was really scared, it was Saturday night ('bout midnight ) So we stopped on lights side by side, they started shouting at us and when lights changed to green we started They were obviously faster but when they were 20m in front of me I did handbrake turn and ran away

You did the right thing mate,he could have been carrying anything in his pockets.

You could have got out and confonted this guy, next thing you know is your lying in a pool of blood with a puncture wound.

I n my works van i have a nice 2ft rather handy Torque wrench by me seat as it's to big to fit in me toolbox. But then again put in a situation like yours could you use it.?

Atleast the plod has his details, doubt they will do anything, they were probably parked up around the corner having a donut and tea.

**** man,can anymore bad luck come your way,you have had a lifetime if bad luck recently.

Im gonna put an extra line on the lottery just for you mate tommorow night.

I got 'road raged before' was driving a shed at the time, he over took me slammed on and got out waving some metal thing at me..

I just stuck it in revers and stoped about 10 car lengths away.. Woulda driven at him if he started coming towards me, not good

On the legal front your quite limited.. I used to have a tyre iron for a while (had some not very nice ppl lookin for me) but that should always be stored in your boot.

You could get a fire extinguisher, perfectly legal, a good safety measure.. And a quick splat in the face from that should give you the uper hand... or you could always smack him round the cannister with it if he still comes back

When driving my landy all tools are stored behind the seats so have ready access to starting handle, jack handle, hefty wheel brace, also a pick axe handle and shovel strapped to the bonnet if need be

You are lucky then because when I did something similar (just grabbed little monkey by his hood) I was reported by his mother to police, then arrested, left with 5 years caution and next night they scratched whole back of my car

lol at this ... good on you....

i did a similar one on a dual carriageway years ago..... this bloke was mahoosive!!! anyway he's gobbing off on the outside lane (summer evening, windows down) and i saw a slip road coming up on the left, so i called him a Fat F******* C***ing W****** and a few more verbs which didnt make any sense really, and then shot off up the sliproad, leaving him in limbo !!

i laid low for an hour after that, just in case he knew the area etc...
and then crept home under the cloak of darkness

did feel good about it though!!! heheheheh

he's porbably got a scooby now, and reading this, and will come to one of our meets and punch my lights out!!!! lol - what have i done??

At least you have your Colin McRae graphic, maybe thats what he was after. Seriously though you done the sensible thing, not an easy thing to do on the spot, I know I probably would've lumped the **** as much as looked at him for that.

You did the right thing, staying in the car with doors locked etc even if you do feel like a wuss now.
The guy should be arrested for a public order offence. Thats if you want it to go that far. Get back on to the fuzz, what are they doig about it?

Now this is the right thing to do. Fecking confront them. These people are bullies, its that simple. They only do it cos they know the police ain't gonna do a thing. They know that if you do confront then the law is on their side. More of us should not think twice about confronting these ******* sh!te heads who think they can get away with blue murder. I have seen plenty of road rage incidents come in my direction, and guess what? When I turn the situation on them it always calms down.

WTF happened to our pride?

i cant understand someone being so pissed at you for doing nothing wrong, i think theres always two sides to a story so i cant comment, although whatever happened theres no need to behave the way he did.

understand what you mean, but i genuinley did absolutley nothing to provoke him. he nearly pulled out on me to start with. he started with the verbal and following me. he approached my car while i was calmly speaking it through to the bobbies.

this is why it upset me, as i didnt even give him some lip for his troubles...

Get some amonia in a squirty bottle and next time blast him in the face with it and then kick the **** out of him.

You could buy some mace but it's a bit dodgy if you get a tug of the plod.
