has my inlet manifold got to come off?
I am loosing boost, i have tracked it down to a hole in the boost pipe that comes off the airbox and into the turbo, this pipe goes under the inlet, i cant seem to remove the pipe,
is it a case of taking the manifold off?
If so, is it a simple task of just unbolting it and taking it off?
And whats the proceadure with refitting? just bolting back on?
Also, whould this pipe be expensive to replace?
thanks in advance.

Wouldnt i have to remap if i used the silicone one from Autobahn88 ??
Iv been trying to get it off for the past few hours, i have been taking various parts, and i now feel i will of bitten off more than i can chew if i carry on and remove the inlet.
Im gonna reassemble it all tomorrow while its all fresh in my head, and see about paying a mechanic to do thw work.

I'm sure I wrote a thread on it somewhere a while back. Anyway, in answer to your question, YES you will need to remove your manifold. There's nothing too tricky, it's just time consuming and be sure to label every pipe and plug that you pull off it for reassembly time. I drain and remove the power steering tank just to give me more room to work, but many people don't bother (this is a MY98). I had an Autobahn 88 inlet hose, and for the money it's a decent bit of gear, certainly the 'proper' alternatives e.g. Samco are most definitely not worth 4 times more. However, it does flow significantly more than a standard pipe and this is not always a good thing unless you're running a much bigger than standard turbo. I've had a VF35 and now a TD05 on both a standard inlet pipe and a big bore Autobahn and much prefer the response of the standard narrow inlet.

by the sounds of this, it needs to be replaced or fixed anyway, and the eayest way is to take the inlet manifold off to change that pipe.

If you have a hole on the inlet side of the turbo you will not loose boost, not in this specific case. That'll do it for me. People are diagnosing problems without understanding of the problem.
Due to this someone may end up removing an inlet manifold for no good reason. If you don't know what you're talking about DONT POST IDEAS AS IF IT WERE FACT.
I know i've been guilty of this also, I do however try to differentiate between fact and opinion.

Thanks for all the replys.
Well i reassembled it all today, engine runs fine, i put some Gaffer tape over the hole and a jublie clip (Just as a temp measure), boost seems to be holding ok now.
silent running ... What was your thread called? or even better still could you dig it out?

It's very simple - the original question doesn't ask for a diagnosis of what his car's problem is and I haven't offered one. I'm simply sticking to the purpose of the thread and saying that IF the pipe needs to be replaced then the only sensible way to do it is to remove the inlet manifold. I should know - I've done it 2 or 3 times myself and regret every hour that I wasted at first trying to manouevre out an inlet pipe from under the manifold.
