Photocopy of Creditcard
Was in a London O2 shop today getting a new phone for my daughter, the woman in front was getting a phone upgrade and when she was asked to pay they insisted they took a photocopy of both sides of her credit card? Now with all the press about identity fraud would you allow a shop to take a copy?
The woman was ok about it and let them do it. Why would they need that? I paid for the phone with my credit card but was not asked if they could photocopy it, having said that I would have told them where to go.
Just seemed a dodgy thing to allow, especially with the security code on the back?

just found out from my bank I got stung for 2k some C**t has taken three amount of £700, £800 and £550 from my debit card and used it in Corals, in one day, they reckon i should get the money back but could take 2 weeks,
must have been cloned, so i would be VERY careful about someone taking copies of your card.

I used to work in the mobile industry on the connections side,
Dealer/Shops have two ways of signing a customer up:
1, is a credit check (some people fail this as the mobile companies/service providers get stung a fare bit by fruad and non payment) These tell so much information about someone that it's quite scary. Even down to your credit limits and balances of your credit cards.
2, is a credit card swipe (we used to allow one for £59 for each phone) so they take £59 off a card and then refund it.
We used to require two copies of id, one for address and the other to confirm identity, the id was either a driving licence, passport or credit card, address was bank/credit card statement or ut bill,
we required a copy front and back of the credit card but didn't mind if the numbers were removed apart from the expiry date.
If the dealer didn't supply these within 3 weeks we took the money back we had paid them for the connection which could be anything up to £300 depending on which tarrif they had connected it to.
Just a tip, blank out all transactions on the statements for any ID they aren't needed.

When a friend of mine went to a O2 shop and upgraded, he handed over a credit card, the shop assistant took a photocopy of the card but placed white strips across the numbers on the front and the numbers on the back.
