Question

is it wise to take my scooby though a car wash? just thinking about the rear spoiler (MY00 turbo 2000 wing), anyone been through one and come out with their spoiler still there? if so which one?

cheers, peccy.

you got a point, but there are some good hi-tech car-washes about now days its like taking your scooby to a beauty salon (not that ive ever been to one ;-),

i used to take my old car to a IMO? one about twice monthly and never had a scratch on the paint work. although ill prob stick to washing by hand now, even in winter!

I would never take mine through the traditional car wash due to the rollers....I do however have mine washed on a regular basis by these "Handy Wash" places....you know...a couple of dozen little men with jet washes, chamois leathers and soapy sponges ...£4.50...pucka job

P.S. Just a lazy git really

Yeh jetwash is ok but would not use a carwash when you see some of the motors that go through them. Two tons of grit around the sides & wheels that you just know will end up giving you go faster lines.

Tip of the day. If you want to use the brush at the jetwash - on the first cycle, spray the brush which should take any sh*t out of it. Otherwise see above as carwash.

Noooooooooo!!!

I have seen a mates car after he went through a dirty car wash.

Apparently.. (according to the attendant) a pick up with a bit of sand in it had been through not long before.

The car really needed a full respray, the garage held no responsibility (as stated on the sign).

In the end he just had it buffed with rubbing compound , but you could still see the scratches all over it.

Just my two penneth#

As above big no, no.

I use a jet spray to get rid of the worst of the crap, then drive home to hand wash and wax it

I worked in a bodyshop and I'd _NEVER_ put even my Fiesta through one

I use Chelle's method...except with my own pressure washer

If you're really that lazy the bp station in King Street, Aberdeen have the perfect solution. They have a drive through car wash in the same way as the roller ones but with a difference. It doesn't have any rollers! It has what can only be described as a large L shaped jet wash arm, with a series of nozzles, which blasts the car from above and side and travels all the way round the car. There's also the option of underbody wash as well. It then dries the car off (well it's supposed to) with 2 large blowers. It's not as good as a hand wash of course but ideal in this sort of weather.

I stuck my 5 door through a car wash in St Albans and it put me off for good. The roller tried about 5 times to get past my standard spoiler (the bottom one) on the upward sweep and kept lifting the car. I had to move forward slightly to get it over. Not only does it damage your car it also scares the s**t of ya!! Being stuck in a malfunctioning car wash is like something out of a horror flick.

Worth freezing me nuts off with the hose pipe just for the calm!

LOL....

Are they like midgets..... or are they specially genetically altered??? and where do you go that employs a couple of dozen???

My local one (hand wash) is just 6 guys, and there are never more than 3 of them doing each car (even when they are empty)....

Must echo others view and never use a 'brush' car wash just scratches the paint and rips off the trim

I'd never take my car through a car wash. The rollers on each side are full of dirt and leave loads (and I mean loads) of tiny scratches all over the car. I have heard stories about people taking their cars in them and the spoilers and mirrors just get ripped off by the rollers.

In my opinion the only way of cleaning cars is to do it by hand. Or if you’re lazy pay someone to do it for you.

Chelle, behave girl

Look at the time - been slaving over a hot bucket all day, only just got the time to sit down at Scoobynet....

And so much for the effort - took one Scoob out on a 12 mile round trip to collect a Chinese, so it's dirty again, and took the Pug out for a demo drive to a prospective purchaser, so that's dirty again too

Still, got the mini mudflaps on mine today so that should keep some of the crap off!!

Less of the old too...plenty of mileage in the old boy yet...
