ok, what do you think is the most fun impreza to drive AND own
in other words, it has to be reliable as an only car doing 10k/year, retain some level of comfort (so no stripped out 500bhp monsters with huge turbo lag), be capable of transporting 4 people etc etc
i'm thinking an sti 5/6 type r modded to a genuine (circa) 350bhp with uprated brakes/suspension? or a more modern jdm sti (possibly spec c with a/c) modded to around 400bhp?
what do others think? anyone owned both?
just curious

The Spec C is a more focus Car and much nearer the experience of the Classics. IMHO
I have a 06 JDM STi and does fun and shopping

Well the reason I got my T25 (MK1) was because it's easy to live with.
More low down power than (probably) any Subaru which makes for easy progress in any gear.
Suspension set to soft (old man mode)
Quite(ish)
Goes like stink when you want it to.
Downside - gearing too short, you quickly run out of gears to throw at the torque.

Most likely a lightly used, low mileage, 5 door, SL spec, late model blob eye WRX with PPP and Subaru warranty left on it.
If you're after the best balance of ownership enjoyment to driving pleasure I contend you will not do any better than that.
