Question Clutch

Hi, i bought my first impreza 3 weeks ago and over the last few days the clucth has felt soft and vage, i did a stall test and if failed badly.

Ive had a look at it and have been told the best way to change it is to take the engine out, can any one confirm this or tell me a better alternative to taking the engine out.

If was to take it to a garage could any one tell me what sort of price i could expect to pay for a new clutch plate+labour.

My impreza is a classic black sport special.

Thanks Alistair

Did the stall test pass when you test drove it 3 weeks ago?

I'm surprised that it has changed hugely over 3 weeks.

There is no need to take the engine out, just remove the box and lower the engine at the rear, regards to cost it will always vary with garages labour rates but the subaru book time for a clutch is 7.5 hours, maybe a bit less for a non turbo and most people will do it in around 5 hours or less.
