Smile New WRX - Close-Up and Friendly

Just had a look around the new Impreza WRX - the one in White which I had seen in the window last Sunday.

I'm pretty impressed by it, couldn't take it out as it's the 'showroom' model ... but they will have a WR Blue one for Demo next week and I can have a 'go'.

A few things disappoint me - the interior door handles feel really flimsy, I cannot see them standing up to any kind of abuse and it really cheapens the whole interior. The heater/climate controls feel like plastic thin toy ***** - horrible! The boot space seems really small - whats under that high floor?? The bumpers (on the white car) are a different 'shade' to the rest of the car! The WRX does not get Sat Nav as standard (the RX does!), which is just penny pinching, Subaru!!!!!

Good things? well the seats are supportive, the seat fabric itself looks really good - kind of 'shimmery' ... you need to see it. The bonnet is supported on gas struts - excellent! The rear LED lights look great lit up. There's a nice blue soft light under the centre dash. The doors close with a nice 'thud'.

Will be interesting to see what it drives like ........ I don't suppose there will be much in the way of a discount now - but, maybe at Xmas when they need to hit their December targets?? And watch the discounts and offeres come if it doesn't sell ....... I think it's a nice car - would I buy one for £20,000? Probably not, but driving it may change my mind!

I took one for a test drive on the weekend.

The misses and I still do not like the look of the hatch. it did not help parking the new WRX next to a GB270

Love the look and feel of the interior along with the huge wing mirrors

The car was very smooth and refined. Pulling well through all the gears.

Disappoint seeing a small lump that was supposed to be the scoop on the bonnet

Now why does THAT ring true?

Oh yes.............UK models with less power, less torque, no rear wash-wipe, no aircon as standard, poor seats, no folding wing mirrors, no DCCD, cheap, weak brakes, no twin scroll turbo, etc etc.

And the price, to us? Around £5000 MORE than the Japs were paying for their cars with all the toys

Ah yes, you'd think that was relevant, wouldn't you?

But then you look at the price of the hotter, better equipped, UK BUILT Civic, which sells cheaper in Japan than the cooler de-specced UK version.

Nope, the Japs are thieves, end of. they don't refer to the UK as "Treasure Island" for nowt, you know

Dunno, but I'd doubt it. They are made here for the JDM, why couldn't they go straight to Litcho's?

I saw an 08 WRX today in my local dealer while mine was being looked at. I've gotta say.... It doesn't look as bad in the flesh as it does in the pictures. I think it'd still be a head turner, the bonnet scoop isn't as rubbish as I'd thought and there's still a rather phat exhaust fitted.

And if the regular WRX doesn't look too bad in the flesh, I'm thinking the STi will look pretty good.

Now THAT looks the part.

Just been to see the new hatch in the flesh.

Interestingly, Bulldog at Twyford have changed the grille on both their demos!!

They've got rid of the horrid Hyundai chrome by putting a plain matt black mesh grille and body colour on the cheap white one, and a plain matt black mesh and body colour with a Subaru badge in the centre on the blue WRX.

Both cars look MUCH, MUCH better as a result though I'd leave out the badge alotgether.

Now if we can only get rid of the ghastly Honda Civic chrome across on the rear end . . .

So, yeah, I admit it, the car does look better in the flesh with the changed grille, but I'd love to see that saloon over here!!
