Default For all the green amongst us...

Just type in your car and mileage:

Carbon Calculator - Green Center - Yahoo! Cars

(don't think they take de-cats into account though)

Who cares?

Its just a con so the government can tax us more and call it green tax!!!
Im sick of hearin about so call carbon emissions.
Few yrs ago they said it would be more sunny days and less rain, so really we should be commended on havin cars with high carbon emissions so we can have a summer next yr! Infact the government should be PAYIN US to drive more.

Cool one of the few carbon calulator I've seen that actually takes into account the amount of miles you do. - Just like the new road tax band does - oh hang on it doesnt - that just another way to screw the motorist for some more cash !
Interestingly the carbon calculator puts a Toyota Prius at about 1/2 that of a 2.0 litre Wrx !

I am confused....

Cording to the website... My Golf TDI @ 20k per year produces 4.5 tons.. Okay I thought fine..... but lets do some maths.

4.5 tons indeed.
So assuming fuel is 1ton per 1m^3 (its not its lighter but to make maths easy go with me) thats 4500 liters so near enough 1000 gallons (conveniently)

Well the onboard computer tells me I personally get about 40mpg (tad under book). So 1000 gallons is 40,000 miles of motoring err twice what I personally expected.

This means for every Ton of fuel I burn, I produce TWO tons of CO2, IMPRESSED, yes I know CO2 is carbon, combined with oxygen, a result of burning is combining the fuel with the air going into the engine, but CO2 is not the only bi product of this process and well I really cannot see an output of one waste gas being twice the fuel input.

Perhaps I am naive in some way about the way a ton of CO2 is measured, but personally I think the figures are pessimistic at best!

Thats before you even start the debate on how harmful it actually is.

Mmmm I can see where your coming from, but personally I would be happy with just taking there fuel expenses off them and making them pay it out of there own pocket. That way they might realise that 103 a liter is actually expensive.

I can't be arsed to look at the chart but here is a calculation.

20,000 miles per annum at 40 mpg uses 500 gallons or 2270 litres of fuel.

Each litre of diesel produces 2.68 kgs of CO2 which means 6.08 tonnes of CO2 produced.

It would be 5.24 tonnes if it was a petrol engine doing 40 mpg.

Not as green as you thought dl
