Default 1996 sti 0r 1997 rb5

As above i am looking a both cars next week the sti is white and the rb5 is grey (think thats the only colour they came in), just trying to find out what car is the better car i am not worried about resale i just would like to know the spec diffrence i have had a look about and have seen the sti is 276 bhp and 0-60 in 4.6 secs and th rb5 is 237 bhp and 5 secs 0-60.
Have a few quetions,

1 what has the better engine and gearbox in terms of tunning and strength
2 what would handle better (if there is any deiffrence)
3 is there much of a weight diffrence
4 are all rb5's uk or imports

thats about it they are booth the same price with similar miles but the sti has more goodies on it such as coilovers boost controller ect.

please help im realy torn between the 2

An RB5 was a British special edition (little more than a unique -JDM- colour and back seat). They werent available until 1999 though. With regards to the 'STI': I would take its model description with a pinch of salt until you have checked the applied model number (ending 48D/47D = bad and 4DD/4ED = good).

rb5 is UK only

RB5
To celebrate Richard Burns' first year in the Subaru World Rally Team, the RB5 (5 was the number Richard used during the 1999 WRC championship) was launched to critical acclaim by the press. 444 examples of this car were made available to the general public. A "WR Sport" version of the car was available at extra cost, specified at delivery time by the first owner.

Blue Steel metallic paintwork
Fully colour-coded exterior (mirrors, door handles, skirts and driving lamp covers)
Blue 'Alcantara' and suede-effect interior trim, with black 'jersey' surround on seats
Special graphite trim for the centre console
Air conditioning
Unique titanium/pewter coloured 17in, 6 spoke Speedline alloy wheels with Pirelli 'P Zero' 205/45 ZR17 tyres
PIAA front driving light conversion
Prodrive quickshift
Roof-mounted map reading lamps
RB5 side and rear decals (and also on driving light covers)
RB5 embossed carpet mats
RB5 interior-mounted, numbered plaque "Limited Edition" only 444 availabl
On the road price: £24,995 (new)

Only you can make the decision of which 1 you want.
The STI has a better spec engine and is the better spec car as standard.

If the STI has jap spec coilovers, imo, they aren't suitable for UK roads (they are quite hard even on the softest settings, i have a set of unknown make on my wrx and they aren't nice).

96 sti isnt that quick unless its the V3 typeR version, which again is a completely different prospect.Dont bother with numbers,go test both cars see what you prefer as they are a lot different,in all honesty i wish id bought the RB5 now instead of the sti but thats just my opinion

276bhp in a classic is still 276bhp; was pretty nippy when I owned one!

47D is a WRX Type-RA: the cheapest WRX model. 48D is a WRX. 4ED is a WRX STI and 4DD is a WRX STI Type-RA.
