I would say the cheapest way to do it would be to buy an Impreza Turbo with knackered body work and transfer everything mechanical over to your sport as well as the wiring and ecu. Huge Job and would cost an absoloute fortune in labour...can be done but how much are you going to spend?

you could buy an early impreza wrx for about £1000 possibly, you could do the work yourself but would need good garage equipment and mechanical know how...plus the car would be off the road for a while.

Theres a reason everyone says just sell the non-turbo and buy a good turbo model.

The mistake is to presume that a Sport is a Turbo without a turbocharger. In fact, it is a 2000cc GL with a number of obsolete parts fitted to make it look like a Turbo. Mechanically everything is different.

around £9,000 and counting...

Seriously dont go there.

I could have bought a bugeye STi for what iv spent at the moment inc the cost of the car.

Think about this.

Engine, gearbox, turbo, intercooler, engine mount's and cradle, Engine loom, boost pack, dump valve, abs pump, poss the front diff and shafts depends on what gearbox you get, dial's, heater matrix, full car loom, fuel pump sender, fuel pump harness and switch, fuel pump, fuel tank, brakes, suspension, rear diff, convert drums to discs (rear axle + brake pipes etc), and about £2k on misc bits like belts, clutch, pedal box if yours is a push clutch, because it will be the oposite, other wiring.

100hours labour would be a start.

then once its in and running, you have the problem of fine tuning the bigger problem's.....

Dont do it seriously.

And then explain all that to your insurance company if you are under 30 !

Yep I was going to mention the insurance angle, often a modified car of a low spec is more to insure (and defiantly more hassle) then an original car of the spec its modified to.

Not worth it tbh Bill. Not matter how much you love your car.
It'll cost at least 3K in labour and then you'll need to spend about 2K on a donar car. Then you've got the cost of tweeking it and ironing out all the bugs. Best thing to do would be to take all the goodies off your Sport, turn it back to standard and then stick your alloys, bonnet etc. back on your new car.

How would they know you had modified it though? Generally it's just easier to have them see the car...before it's modified, at least if you're under 25/30.

so what your saying is you would lie to your insurance company.... thus making any possible claim on your/3rd parties part void?

I'm just saying that if you're under a certain age, you'd probably pay more for your insurance then any kind of claims.
