Hi all,
My car has been away for quite some time having had a little TLC and only returned today however the tax ran out on the 30th November.
Will I need to tax the car asap before I can drive it (tonight) or can I use it today and tax it tomorrow or even the end of the week?
I suppose I want to know if it will void my insurance taking it out minus tax.
Thanks in advance!
PS its not my primary mode of transport but my favorite

From what I gather you can be done for not displaying a tax disc on a car anytime after the tax has run out and you're not displaying the new disc. The only exception I know is if you're going straight to an MOT centre for a prebooked appointment.
Re. your insurance I'd err on the side of caution as some insurers will go to any length not to pay a claim. Maybe you could read the T&T of your policy. I personally would not drive the car until it's been taxed.

Thanks!!
I thought as much. Does seem like common sense really but a definite answer was what I was after. I dont need to drive the car so won't until I can tax it.

Your insurance is not usually voided (check your policy, I've checked three and none mantion it) for no tax (or no MOT), thats a big urban myth, however knowingly driving the car in an unroadworthy condition may void it.
