Hi All,
Recently had a replacement exhaust fitted to my WR1 and now get a loud high pitched noise at full throttle about 4.5k on in any gear. Not to exaggerate but it really does sound like a jet engine of some description..! I don't really want to attract anymore attention to the car than I need to. plus it just sounds wrong...
Some claims it's down to slight a change in exhaust design but just not comfortable that it should sound like it does. The dealer is waiting to hear from prodrive on this apparently, but that was over a week ago and still not heard anything as yet..
Any opinions or has anyone else experienced this?
Also waiting for my fathers company to take a look, as they provide independent vehicle inspections to several manufacturers and insurance companies etc....
PS, this is all under warranty so keen to make sure it is how it should be!

Could it be surge? Mike Wood did say on here that changing the exhaust on a ppp'd car can cause this or simular conditions that can cause some damage to the engine.

Hi Dave, thanks for the comments...? don't suppose you could clarify what you mean by surge?
Thought it would be the same as it's like for like replacement..?

Does it sound like the pressure release valve on pressure cooker? If so its the wastegate. Either you are making too much boost, or its cutting in early.
If you don't get the answers you want, take it to somewhere else that knows what they are on about. Just ask on here and say where you are in the country.

Hello Ben,
It could be overboost, if you've changed the exhaust to a decat without a remap. A decat might cause boost creep too, where the boost keeps rising if your on a high speed run.
Which zorst did you fit?
Have you checked out www.wr1oc.co.uk ?
Cheers
Anders

Sorry guys, maybe I didn't explain myself very well, the exhaust is a standard exhaust from prodrive replaced under warranty. That's why the dealer was going to check with prodrive to see if they knew why there would be a problem.

I got that sort of noise when i put a bung in the tailpipe to quieten it down, i assume the noise was there because the bung had a smaller diameter pipe than the rest of the system so the pressure of the exiting gases was making that noise, if it's a standard replacement system then everything should be the same, sorry i know not much help but i thought i'd just share it anyway
